Was not charging so borrowed regulator from nieghbors JD B. Charged 15 amps when first started tractor, then slowly came down to about 4 or 5 amps after running for awhile. Bought new regulator, but only charges 2or 3 amps even when first started and battery is low. Yet when you turn lights on will not discharge, but still charges 2 or 3 amps. Should I have done something with the new regulator when installed so it should charge properly.

Trying the neighbord regulator shows your generator and wiring is ok, so now check voltage at the battery posts with the engine running half throttle, 6V should be 7-7.2 volts, if converted to 12V, would be 14 V.

If the voltage is low, you may need to remove the regulator cover and adjust the field relay up a bit to get the correct voltage with the cover installed. Cover off VS cover on makes a bit of difference in the voltage setting.

Seems to me like we used to polorize a new regulator when we put it on, but for ther life of me, can't remember for sure whitch wire we flashed. Someone else will know. Keith
