Plowing - tag team style

18Th of March and we"re out plowing. Son wanted to help, and I said, "Go for it!" So he fired up his 1949 JD B and an old Oliver plow. Restored tractor was his senior project in high school. Plow we got fixed mechanically, but it has so far evaded the paint gun.

Was in the high 70"s and both tractors had issues with the heat. MF 180 was running hot, and I got sprayed with a mist of antifreeze and water. JD was having fuel vapor lock - could actually see fuel boiling in the sediment bowl.

First picture, we"re letting them cool down for a few. Grandson, 2 1/2 yrs, brought his tractor and plow out to help.
Second picture, close up of the three of us. No, we're not Mennonites, just haven't been sheared yet this spring!

We"re in central Michigan. Can"t remember ever getting this early of a start on the spring work. We were plowing sod that had been there for many years, to plant oats and reseed.

That's a good way to do it. Enjoy, be safe. Oh yes, drop hints to the youngest. Less and less youngers getting into the family business anymore.

And I noticed below that you mentioned this about as early as you have begun plowing. I noticed today that the bushes around the house have leaves on them. I don't know what that's going to do to vegetation, planting or otherwise. Plowing is one thing, but I'd be leary of planting based upon the weather. Too warm to snow, but not getting the precipitation that we would otherwise either. Going to make for a buggy season too. Friday ran into a couple of good sized Brown Recluse (Violin) spiders. Too early in the year for those guys to be so active, but thats what they were. I penned them down and got a good look just to be sure that I was looking at what I thought I was looking at. Pests, insects are going to be bad this year in at least the Midwest.

Much good luck to you and the family.

great pics and even better memories. We have a 1080 Massey and it overheats sometimes too. 4 bottoms is quite a bit for the 180 but your soil is probably much easier than ours.

Thanks for posting the pics.
