Did a lot of plowing today, four 16", pulling it with a 60hp tractor. No problem with lack of power.

See Plowing - tag team style, below.

Here in So. Mn. black gumbo ground. 4 bottom--125 hp. 5 bottom-- 150 hp. Everything else better be perfect too. Not to dry, not to wet, not to windy, not to sunny, well you get the picture.

Ran a 4-16 with an 85 hp tractor was a good load, as the tractor got older it got to be a little much for the tractor.

Run a 4-20 now, use a 145 hp tractor, is a pretty good match. In ideal conditions seems like a light load, but in tough conditions, it's all it can handle.

Out MN dirt is tough stuff. :) Folks with sandbased soil can add a bottom and be fine.

Hehe. That's about right. I've got one hill field that's split down the middle between black gumbo and sandy loam. When plowing, I switch transmission ranges on every pass instead gears. :)

I do pull a 4-16 with my 85hp in gumbo though, but it's a crawl. My yearly test to make sure my temperature gauge is working properly.
