Sun screen alternative

I can't use over the counter sun screens. They give me a burning skin rash. Does anyone have the same problem and what do you use as an alternative sun screen? I must use something?

I've got a sneaky suspicion that the sunblocker stuff causes skin cancer. I refuse to use the stuff.

Either limit your time out in the sun, or wear long pants, long sleeved shirts, gloves, and a wide brimmed hat.

I use tha alcohol based Bull Frog spray and Zinc Oxide for heavy exposed areas. I am allergic to the heavy lotion and the heavy fragrance, not the paba.

Funny, that's thesame thing my dermatolist told me, I have cancer, she said use bullfrog, or my ears will start looking funny. Works for me!!!

Rustyfarmall you sound like my grandmother she always dressed like that when she worked outside. She always said the direct sun was not good for you. She passed away at 80 years old and had the clearest skin of any 80 year old I have seen.

I think it's time to see a dermatologist.

I have allot of skin damage from running around without a shirt as a kid. Wished I would have known the consequences then. I have overly sensitive skin just on my shoulders but I don't have allergies to sunblock.

My only advice is try the Columbia PFG long sleeve shirts. Not the cotton but the omni shade polyester that are UPF 50 sun protection. I check the clearance rack every fall for these at academy or gander mountain. They are great for hot weather, very cool and keep you dry.

That and my big hat is all I use these days.

I know what you said about sunblock but try a product called banana boat for babies, its made for babies sensative skin.. Get the highest spf they carry. I never was able to use any of the other products before this one. All the others burned my face. This works good for me.
Angle iron.

Check out Bass Pro, under fishing and technical clothes, have brands called Buff and Glacier Glove, they make thin cover for face for UV protection, supposed to keep you cool to 90+ degrees, etc, thinking about getting one for protection from rays, some of replys were from folks that had skin cancer, look funny but beats getting top of your nose or ears cut off from cancer HTH

Got my appointment with the surgeon next week to take off at least two places on my back. Yep. Running around without a shirt growing up. Learned my lesson but still gonna have to pay for it.

When I die, I do NOT plan to leave any "Good-Looking" Corps...!!
I am gonna USE it like I do my equipment and my cars..run it till the Wheels fall OFF..!!

Ron..

Sorry, I plan to die with my nose. Already seen a dermatologist. She warned me that I've spent too much time in the sun and I have a pre-cancer condition on my nose. I have a 1 in 4 chance of getting skin cancer. I like to have a nose to pick:)

My grandpa wore what he called summer weight long johns and a long sleeve shirt everyday in the summer. And a straw hat.

PreSun.
ask the pharmacist. It's not advertised so it's harder to find but it is dermatologist recommended for sensitive and acne prone skin.

Dan, I guess there was an advantage to being a hippie of the 60's, the long hair covered my ears:) Should have covered my face too.

A good big straw hat, a lightweight long sleeve cotton shirt. Works better than any sunblock I've used.

Went to Wal-mart and asked pharmacist for help. Found Coppertone has a sun screen for sensitive skin. 14.5% zinc oxide and a couple other things. SPF 50. So far, no rash. Skin feels cool and soft.

I found an ad in "THE BUDGET", Amish newspaper,
(I get my copy at a "Quick stop" at Cashton Wi,)
for "STUTZMAN HEADGEAR". Yea, they make, and
mail order, Amish straw hats, and ones with BIG
extra wide brims that protect your ears!
