Finally went and got started on testosterone booster shots. Level was at 85. Low and causing a multitude of other problems. I do know that the energy level could affect any vocation including farming.read on the ills of low testosterone level and the problems are many. I fit em all. Hate the 1.1/2 needles te worst. Have been injecting insulin since 1985, so there are a lot of holes punched in this old hide, and still continuing to this day.I understand that testosterone loss can start at age 35 and even before that age.Last year. I couldn't drive the 706 for horse pooh for the garden, So much energy loss it would be way to dangerous to operate tractor on the hwy.I do know from reading these post that there are diabetics here and was wondering about similar health issues that I've described? Regards LOU.

I'll be 65 in October and don't have diabetes but sure don't have any energy and my muscle tone and strength is about used up. I do have to take breathing treatments 3 times a day. Kinda thought that was what was causing the weakness and loss of the other drive too if you know what I mean. Guess I'll check into the tetestrone thing. Thanks Lou for bringing that to my attention. Keith

Glad to supply limited information. Most fellows never realize why they are getting weaker by the day. I was so bad, mussel loss, sleep all the time, couldn't walk hardly at all, standing for any length of time was a thing of the past. Most of the leg problem stemed fron diabetes (Bi-Lateral neuropathy-Both legs)still has a hold on my acatavity but I'm told the theropy may help with the injections. The theropy does have some importance with correcting weight gain. The leg problem and tired had every thing to do with not being able to use the tractor, crawler and bobcat, fellow has to have a keen mind and an able body to run equiptment safely. I sure hope you look into the matter. Warmest regards , LOU

Hey LOU are you type 1 or 2 ? I have two sons that are type 1 ages 7 & 5 always looking for info from older people with it. Both are on pumps and we love them. I have a friend with the same diagnosis started the shots for the enrgy problem and wow what a difference in his well being.

I have tiredness issues, not bad, but irritating. My weakness started years ago when the doc put me on statin drugs for my cholesterol levels. I have heard thyroid problems can also be a cause. Leo

You should seriously consider getting off of statin drugs and hope that you have not suffered irreparable damage. They cause many serious side effects. You need to read all the information that you can find about the dangers of them.
Cardiologist said I should take them. Not long after I started them I gradually began feeling weakness, muscle and joint aches. A friend told me he had just found out that his same symptoms were caused by the statins he was taking .I was on the same drug. I read all that I could find about them and was shocked to see how dangerous they are. Darn doctor never told me that LOTS of people have serious side effects of pain , aches and liver damage from statins. I stopped them and it took months to get back to normal. Doctors are not going to tell you of the side effects, they get kick backs from drug companies for writing prescriptions.

I'm skeptical. Not of you. Just the idea of treating low T in general. When we get old, we're supposed to slow down and not work like 20 year old idiots (like I did for way too long). I suspect in normal older men, it's supposed to get low so we don't work like teenagers or keep on chasing wild women. I'm only half the strength I used to be - but maybe I'm better off. Can't say for sure.

I suspect women always have low T (well, let's say most women). They certainly tend to outlast us guys.

It may be of benefit for some older folks but I doubt it hurts some others. Kind of like the low cholesterol scam. Billions are spent making drugs to prescribe for it yet there is not one shred of evidence that anyone's lifespan has been increased by taking a statin drug. We do know a few livers have been damaged by it.

Hey Lou.

I had a lot of the symtoms you describe. I

finally changed docs and the new one checked my

B-12 level and found it to be 120. Normal level

shold have been 700+

I now get b-12 injections at the docs office for

I think a dollar or so. Went from 148lbs to 180+

and have got most of my power back

Still can't grab the 5500 watt generator and

throw it in the back of the pickup like I used

to but that probably wasn't the smartest thing

to do anyway. :)

Good luck,

Brad

Jde. Sure as shooting, The older a man gets, the weaker he becomes. Loss of muselmass(sp)extreem tiredness, some memory loss, weight gain, etc isn't a problem for some, but for others, it bears directly on Low testostorone(sp) I have had all the blood tests and all of the test shows I'm low(85) but psa great shape. The theropy (shots-Patces, salve) isn't a dog and pony show. Treatment may not work (needle)for some, but the patch just may. I was hesitant about starting the theropy because of the cancer risk, however living as I am, sure as hell isn't quite as exciting when one can't move about, No ENERGY, Sleep all the time musell Ache, loss of strength,Concentration level nill etc.At one time I was as strong as an ox,and as the years went by that strength deminished ( as it will)and lately almost gone. Drag myself from room to room trying to get it together for another day truly prompted me to listen to the advice from the V.A.Dr to look into the treatment. I've read all the information I could get my hands on, talked with our family doctor so I have decided to try the theropy route. Now after the first shot About 1 hr ,the problems seem to dissapear. LIke I was back to being my old self. I'm not sure how long it normaly takes for a positive reaction nor how long it will last, But for now, I'm greatfull for the relief.I'm one who don't buy into all medical advice, and I'm extreemly leary about most, but both my doctors are on the same page with my problem. The expense of the drug is costly but Being an outpatient with the Vets, I'm not being put in a pinch. With the diabetes, the insulin has kept me alive since 1985 when I was diagnosed as type 2 and insulin dependent.Wemon don't suffer from low testostrone as men do but they suffer with their own medical problem which mirrors the mens. They suffer with bone loss, rounded shoulders and a whole list of other problems. God bless em!Any person who is ill,has to weigh the options as to whether it is benificial to venture into the unknown or just pass from this world with problems that can be corected. I don"t chose the later.Musell men on steroids look good but as the story goes, performing in other areas(XXX) does't measure up to what it was before the start of steroids.I still want to contribute to the family's welfare by being able to use the tractor- machinery, and do other things to lessen Victors conributions. God bless him!!!!. Well Jde, Just my 002 worth and there is a raft of medical information on the net under Testostrone loss. Interesting reading. Thanks for the reply. Warmest regards LOU

Was you on a treatment program? .or did the cancer thing start on it's own with the body producing it's own Testosteron? MY family Dr is one smart cookie and he explained the testostron(sp) shot doesn't cause the cancer , but it does enhanse the cancer if it was persent before the theropy. Thanks for the reply Regards LOU.

Hi Brad. Just be thankfull your not 76 with problems LOL. Seriously , I was as strong as an ox when I was young, but nowwwwwwwwwwwwww??? Glad your being helped with the vitamin shot. Keep on truckin . regards LOU.

I had the same symtoms plus a feeling in hands and feet like they were coming out of frost bite. Got these symtoms three days after gallbladder surgery( witch they broke getting it out). They did a bunch of tests and found out B-12 level was 93 and today four years latter it at 500 and doctor says 1000 is normal. My wife give me a B-12 shot every other week and doctor says I will have to take them the rest of my life. My hands and feet still fell like they are coming out of frost bite and been told to just learn to live with.

I suffered memory loss bigtime as well as the muscle aches from using lipitor , a leading statin. I quit them 5 years ago , and still don't have full memory back. The drug co. is just now admitting that it causes memory loss.

Bro has the same thing, has to take the shots, they help him a lot. the saw bones couln't or wouln't find anything wrong with him till he couln't even stand up on his own anymore he's 70.

Funny thing is I got blood tested yesterday for low T.The tip off for me was sleeping all the time but waking up every couple of hours.I changed jobs last June and went on straight nights.I hate every minute of the job but they pay every week and I had been looking for a good paying job for 2 1/2 years since the economy went bad.
I quickly realized something was wrong after switching to nights.I stopped shaving a month age and now have what should be a weeks growth. That is what got the docs attention.I"ve been checked thoroughly over the last 6 months including a prostate cancer scare that turned out to be a chunk of old scar tissue in there.
I did a little research and found that the hormone profiles of blood tests taken in the 60"s are different than today.Modern diet and lifestyle are lowering the T levels at an earlier age than is natural according to some researchers.
