Cheap Hydraulic Oil

I need some cheap hydraulic oil to flush a bunch of water out of the hydraulics on my new to me JD600. All I can find is stuff in the $60 range, but I read on this forum and other that some stuff can be had in the $25 price range, I would hate to have to pitch $60 pails of oil after one trip through the system. Any Ideas?

Few years back it rained here for a week and water entered in through the trans shifter.

Massey dealer told me to use diesel fuel.

Worked with no problems.

Just a simple hydraulic oil,not Hy-Tran would be the cheaper stuff. You used to be able to buy two gallon jugs of non detergent cheap. That would do the job.

Real good chance the brake lining is shot too as water eats them up.

I agree with TomR on using deisel fuel. It will work fine for flushing the lines. When you get it flushed good let it drain for a while or blow it out with air. Then put in your regular fluid.

tsc and others sell 'extreme' pure flow utf for about 20-25$ per 5 g.. accell 303 fluid costs about the same. i'd use that as a flush oil.

but first.. if you have a water issue.. go buy a bunch of 90% rubbing alcohol from the drug store.. add it to the hyd sump and a lil diesel.

diesel will thin the oil..

the alcohol is a polar solvent.. water is polar.. you will clean the sump WAY better solvating the water, rather than just emulsifying it.. etc.

As sound says use some alcohol or if you want to waste more $$ use some of the gas tank water stuff called HEET but it is pretty much the same thing

I would use diesel first, but wouldn't think of adding new Hygard without re-flushing with a cheap hydraulic product to remove/dilute the remaining diesel. Nearly anything would lubricate better than diesel. Retain the second flushing for general lubrication. I use old filtered hydraulic oil in my pump oil can and also have cut summer chainsaw bar oil for winter use.
