Anybody else out there pruning this time of year? We're pruning blueberries, with a Stihl MS-180-C, a 16" MINI bar and a 0.043" chain. Getting a few hundred plants done a day. Berries are just starting to open up the bids.

For fruit trees, I like to get the pruning done while their are dormant. By now they are starting into their growing cycle.

cutting down a 12" soft maple yesterday in Iowa, the stump bubbled with water, the limbing towards the 35 foot height, actually squirted water on me.
I have been painting undiluted RoundUp on stumps trying to stop growth and kill roots prior to tiling, but think I'll wait a few weeks for that.

We"re heavy into it in the vineyard. Also have blueberries and apples to work on. currents and gooseberries are done.

To kill the stump/roots, use a large drill bit and cordless drill (if stump is away from electrical source). Drill multiple holes in the stump and pour undiluted Remedy in the holes. It will kill the roots.

I need to start pruning, but don't really feel like wading in water. Maybe in a week or two.

I would have done my apple and pear trees a month ago but then the bathroom happened. I'll be doing it tomorrow and the next day probably, in 55-60 degree weather...

All the snow is gone too...

I like to do it befote any signs of spring growth. As Jim said it may be too late this year. The mild winter has confused trees, etc. and they are growing early making pruning more difficult to get done on time this year.

Finished pruning apples and grapes in February, still too warm to do it but no choice. I like to leave the apple prunings on the ground until spring for the rabbits, and it helps keep 'em out of my wifes shrubs.
