It's that way on both sides. I don't get it.

people are the same then, as they are now,,if you can save a dollar and fix it with baling wire [to con a phrase], why spend money on a new part until needed to, when you can make do with what you have lying around...my guess

I would go along with the theory of making the wheel track narrower. But I wonder what they did to the rear end to make that match the front!!

Narrow versions of tractors are quite common here in the UK for Fruit and Hop growers with an even narrower width for vineyards.

I've done this on my Fordson Dexta so that I can narrow the front wheel track for ploughing. 16" *15.5 tyres hit the axle at full lock at the narrowest setting required for ploughing. Can't understand why Fordson designed it this way!

The 9N I bought had a loader on it and someone ahd replaced the original front axel with a NAA axel. When I took the loader off and wanted to get the tractor narrower I ran into the same problem.

Sure bet they would! Pertains to trucks, not tractors -but you should YouTube the song "I'm a Truck" by Red Simpson...husband loves that song.
