Live a couple hours north, have several sets of able hands, large tarps, generators, salamander heaters, etc if someone needs help. Can't do everything, but will help however we can.

Generous offer. I"m sure they could use the help, even if you just show up and report to the nearest authority. What amazes me is the network TV reports. They show the folks in the affected areas pitching in and getting on with the cleanup. Lots of volunteers just a helping, even folks they don"t know. What amazes me is that the news media are reporting this as news. Isn"t that what us midwest and rural folks do?

Check with your local Red Cross, or churches. they may well be mobilizing crews right now.

Holten, Indiana, was looking for volunteers today to help clean up. It basically wiped Holten off of the map, and killed 2.

Same thing happened down this-a-way last summer when Joplin, MO got hit by that big storm. People from all over pitched in one way or the other. Just the way it is in the country.

Wonder if anyone has a place set up to return storm items found. I live in WV between Charleston and Ripley and found a tax paper from KY. Full picture of a young man and woman and some parts of pictures out walking today.
After all those people went through they may have to wory about ID. theft. One paper had a name and SS. #.

"The American Red Cross Shelter is open at Charlestown High School; please help those who need shelter to get there. The shelter will be open until there is no further need.
The best way to help at this time is with a monitary contribution to your local Red Cross chapter or other official disaster relief effort.
Anyone wishing to volunteer to help with the shelter operations should come to the Clark County Red Cross at 1805 East 8th Street in Jeffersonville to complete an application and background check process. All volunteers will be required to attend an orientation before they are issued an identification badge and put on a schedule to help. Please be sure to provide your email address on the application so we may contact you for the time to attend orientation.
If you would like to print an application to bring with you, [See link at website].

If you are trying to contact loved ones, please go to the Red Cross Safe & Well site at https://safeandwell.communityos.org/cms/index.php
We are not currently handling any search and rescue efforts. Please contact local city officials in those areas."

From what I've seen, the local Red Cross is appealing more for money than for help. Northside Christian Church has partnered with an organization called Samaritan's Purse to help with other aspects. More details are available at Northside's website, listed below.

I live near the Red River Valley that floods Fargo and Grand Forks. I can donate equipment and time to help the cause but monetary help isn't possible. The question ask was how can this guy donate time/equipment to help and I see people begging money. Somehow that seems wrong. If the Fargo/GF area gets hit again I know where I can get my TLB hauled for free to help out but I just don't have the cash to give money that may end up being spent in Africa.

So I think I addressed more than just an appeal for money. Personally, as long as the head honcho of the Red Cross gets the outrageous salary that they do--around half a million dollars a year--I'm not donating to them. I don't recommend that anyone else do so either. I just pass along the information I'm given.

You might give WSAZ a call, they were saying something about that on the news last night. Hope this helps, Keith

If you like to help physically, you can go to the town of Holton and check in at the firehouse. The town is a small close knit farming community they would appreciate the help. Many fields as I am told is covered by debris and needs to be cleaned up amongst other damage. I had to leave town Saturday for a week or I would be there. I live 20 miles from there, but have relatives that live there, they were lucky to only lose part of their roof and garage, others not so lucky, again thanks for the offers from all.

Thanks for the ideas. Trying to double check that everyone in our extended family is OK down there-I might be heading to one of their places first. We're at a time in our business that I can have a few of my guys go down with me to help to give them some work. It's between the snow flying and the grass growing here.
