I posted about a click-click noise every now and then on my truck..It turns out to be..a 3/8x2" bolt Inside the tire.(not stuck in it) Someone repaired it and left it in there as a prank..I bought the truck used..I jacked up rear and put it in drive I didn't even make it all the way around back of truck and found the problem...A automotive repair shop said it was 4x4 vacuum sensor they had it in there for 2 hours and couldn't find the source..

yeah...i've run across more than my fair share of them kinda jokes...one that sticks out in my mind is a clanking noise in a new '82 town car i got stuck with figuring out...after going thru every possible option it finally showed up inside the drive shaft...after cutting the end off the shaft a 1/2x9/16" box end wrench fell out with a note attached to it...note said "you finally found that FFFF' n noise didnt ya"
i'm still huntin that sob!

makes you wonder just how much time factory workers have to dedicate to pranks, ive found 2 in my time, one was a 1 inch steel ball inside the door cavity on the passengers side , car had a rumbeling noise followed by a hard thunk noise when accelerating or stopping , the other, years later was a coke bottle tied with what looked like heavy duty fishing line, it was behind the rear seat back cushion, on the steel reinforcement between the passengers compartment and the trunk, made some really strange noises when cornering the car

Friend in MT ran a fleet of school buses. A front tire was repaired before the bus was driven 250 miles to a tournament. The tire was open on the floor for 20 minutes and some idiot put a 1/5" across the flats hex nut in the tire.
It was inflated and installed on the bus.
180 miles into the trip it exploded and almost wrecked the bus load of kids. The idiot (not the person who repaired the tire) bragged about making the tire out of ballance. Then was finding a job that could not damage people. Jim

And we used our tax dollars to bail out the car companies and guarantee the pensions of these idiots. And they get upset when we buy Toyotas and Hondas. I grew up outside of Lansing Michigan, a big GM town and home of Oldsmobile somehow GM managed to find all the people in town that like messing things up and got them all under two roofs, Fischer Body and Olds Main-assembly, after work they'd sit in the bar and brag about all the stuff they messed up at work that day. Maybe it's a good thing there's empty lots were these plants used to be.

Not hearing much about such "pranks" from the factory these days. Most things produced have 100% traceablity. Most the jokers that pull crap like this have been found out and fired.

I got stuck with finding a noise in a new 57 Ford car.Found 3 soda bottles in the trunk down in the fender wells.Cant imagine what those fools are thinking when they do that.

The ones that really irritate me are the "I got a noise when I turn corners" and you find something round like a lipstick in the center console rolling around. Another good one was a brand new F150 that had a whistling noise on the highway. Owner was very upset that a brand new truck made noises it shouldn't. He was even more upset when I told him his magnetic CB antenna on the roof had to go along with a diagnostic charge.
