another waterline volume question.....

Unrelated to what I asked last week (that project is finished).....

Now, I've got the sump pump setup with the 1" hose to fill my remote tanks. That cheap hose is a real PITA to work with. I have a bunch of fire hose on hand. Any reason I couldn't use an adapter and hook the 3" hose up to the pump? A sump pump doesn't need backpressure to work does it?

It will work but the fire hose is a pita to work with too, it kinks at low pressure, but I would try it.

The only problem I can see is the sump pump might not be able to generate enough pressure to open the firehose. Try it and see.

I use a sump pump with 40mm (1.5") fire hose on the outlet. It runs water out the end, doing what I want, but it is not easy to move, or direct after placement in a straight line to the discharge point. Sump pumps can handle a 2m head OK, but really perform best when at zero head. I would recommend commercial grade 19mm (3/4") hose (rubber is great as is silicon based coverings) Find some surplus and love it. Jim

One winter when my gray water line froze and the sump pit backed up. I replaced my discharged pipe with three put together shop-vac (1 1/4" ? 1 1/2") plastic hoses run out the drier vent opening on a descending-ly placed plank (so's the hose'd properly drain) after the dryer hose been removed. The dryer vent's heat better served used in the basement that winter. The whole change over worked well what was left of that winter.
