1969 Ford 3000 carb adjustment

Recently, I have to pull the hand lever down 3/4 of the way before it responds and rpms go up. It is not idling right when hand lever is completely up. I looked at my tractor manual on how to adjust idle stop screw and idle mixture screw on the original holley carb but to me it is not very explanatory.

Advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Tyler

It appears that you need to adjust the governorr linkage. The procedure to do so is in the owners manual.

I was wondering if the govenor linkage might need adjusted.

I looked in the chapter for fuel systems where it talks about adjusting the carb but I don't see any great information on how to do this. May be it is described better somewhere else that I haven't found yet.

Do you have any good tips?

Thanks,

Tyler

ok,, get a book.. but dont go adjusting anything unless you know how to put it back.

could be carb is gunked up, and you need to clean it. but dont go screw up everything beyond all hope till you get a book, read and then dont do anything without knowing how to put it back.

was it running ok earlier?
what changed?
what did you mess with?
do you run gas with alcohol in it?
does it run better with the choke pulled out a bit?

I have the complete tractor manual for it. I looked, I believe, in chapter three, fuel systems, carburetor adjustment. I went step by step from what was described. The manual states if theses adjustments don't work need to adjust govenor linkage. However, unless there is another section that describes how to adjust the govenor linkage that I can't find, that is all it states.

was it running ok earlier? yes

what changed? does not idle with hand lever all the way forward (or up), rpm's don't increase until I pull hand lever back (or down) about 3/4 of the way

what did you mess with? I attempted the carb adjustments with the throttle screw at the back of the carb and the mixture screw at the front of the carb.

do you run gas with alcohol in it? no, gas without ethanol

does it run better with the choke pulled out a bit? yes, if the choke is pulled out half way, it will idle better with hand lever all the way up (or forward)....idle

Thanks,

Tyler
