I just read about this new virus in Europe that's affecting sheep and cattle. It causes stillborns in 20% of herds and is spread by biting insects (midges and mosquitoes). Not much is known about the virus yet and since there's no sign of it until lambing/calving season so the spread isn't well known yet. Scary stuff. If mosquitoes spread it, I don't see how it can be contained or controlled.

I saw a link to this article on Drudge Report this morning and was wondering if any of the British folks who post on here have been affected by it.

DDT is effective on insects, but not on virus. The problem is that using it also trashes species not intended to be killed, some of which are dramatically important to Ag for polination. From Hony Bees to cretain types of flys, they make our food happen. Stopping the virus is a better approach. Jim
