Out Patient Surgery ... I had a first today ..

Hi,

Well , I had a first today . I had my first outpatient surgery at out local hospital . Had a ear tube took out and replaced. Since I had to be put to sleep for the procedure , I can't drive until at least 11:00 am tommorrow . Not being able to drive for 24 hours sucks . It also makes you appreciate the luxury of being able to . But , at least I got an excuse to miss work for one night . With all the questions , blood pressure tests , temp. tests and IV , you'd think that I was having major surgey as in having my appendix took out , etc.. Other than the taste im my mouth ( they administered my anthestia that way ) when I woke up and the IV being stuck in my arm , it wasn't bad . But , it makes me feel for the people having major surgery ( open heart , etc. ) and being admitted to the hospital overnight or longer after what little I went through for minor outpatient surgery for my ear tube to be took out and replaced ,app. a five minute procedure especially when the patient is knocked out . Originally thought that the tube had worked around and gotten against the bones in my ear and was muffling the sound and if this didn't work then I'd have to have reconstructive surgery .

I've just got going after hip replacement Thanksgiving time. 4 days in the hospital and a month in the nursing home. The leg bone split when they hammered the artificial joint in so it was 6 weeks before full weight bearing.

Had my right eye de-cataracted on January 3rd and my left eye done on February 14th. Both times I was sitting at the Friendly's resturant in downtown Ithaca having lunch with my "seeing eye daughter" 1 1/2 hours after the surgery. Phenominal technology these days!

It's good your surgery turned out simple. They did the same thing to Marilyn when she had a trigger finger fixed. Trigger finger is when your finger will catch when you try to bend it because of a nodule on a tendon. Anyway, she had same prep work you did. IV, skimpy gown, the works and they only numbed the hand to do it. Jim

They usually taper ream and glue in old people so the bone doesn't split. Pretty interesting how they do the ball size selection and insertion. Wonder what they use to do before hip replacement technology advances.

Lucky you get to drive that quick, I had 3 hour surgery yesterday on my arm, told me it might be a overnight stay but sent me home. May be a couple weeks before thet let me. Put out enough hay for a week so I will have to get on the tractor next week for sure.
