Why is it so valuable? FA Regular sold

Just curious for your opinions, if you all don"t mind sharing your thoughts.

This FA Regular sold on ebay this week for $4,000. Only 1 bidder... so husband and I were wondering if there is something truly that valuable about it (we do know a wide front brings value up, the auction note said it ran... but that still does not guarentee that it will not need a bunch of work done to it). One thing I see a lot of on Epay that makes me suspicious. Sellers list an item with a high starting bid, for instance $4,000. Then there is only one bid. I think the seller has a friend put up that first bid as bait, hoping another person that is interested will then put the second bid on it.

I have seen too many of these one bid items be relisted a couple months later again. Not saying that happened with this farmall but have seen it on other items.

Wide fronts for F-series farmalls can sell for thousands. This listing was terribly lacking in information, not even a serial number. I'm a little suspicious about that front end though. Can't say for sure but it looks like it could be fabricated. I haven't seen a wide front regular up close before. The wheels look like 10-20 wheels. Compare it to the front end on this one from the collector's originality guide.

compare the two pics of the front ends. the one on ebay is cobbled up.the steering doesn't match.or the mountings.
 
Could be the seller wanted that much for it. ather than put the minimum price and scare folks off, just had someone else put the 4k bid. And got stuck with it. Watch for it to be listed again with a story about folks not honoring a purchase.....
 
Not sure if its a narrow tread or not, but that front end is not correct, thats why it only got 1 bid. Yes it will probably be for sale again....
 
That tractor may well be worth $4000. Narrow treads are rather scarce and the wide front even though not factory original is unique and would add value.
 
Another couple questions... why does it have double spokes on the rear wheels that are on the tractor?

Are those tall spade lugs only for 10-20s or could a Regular have come from the factory with those type lugs?

Thanks so much for all your previous replies and for any replies to these questions! You guys are awesome. Will have to get out our Collectors Guide and do some more reading too...just don't always find the time with work and all.
 
can't answer you on the double spokes. I'd say they were added for strength. The tall lugs may or may not be for that tractor. 4, 5, &6 in lugs were available. I don't know what those wheels in the picture are. The spoke centers are separate wheels and not part of them even though they may be included with the sale.

Anyone notice the spark arrestor muffler? Only one of those I've seen other than in old pictures.

Those offset wheels were used on narrow treads, I imagine they needed extra reinforcement because of the extra side pressure on them.
 
after looking it does appear to be narrow tread so that would bump it up some. Would like to know why they modified the front end, what crop they wer doing. Those extra wheels look like implement wheels withtractor outer wheels welded on with the tall lugs. Maybe they wer working in sand or wet dirt and needed traction to operate the implement, or maybe those were rigged up as duals, who knows. I would guess the front axle was off a 10-20 bay as narrow as it looks.Would be interesting to hear the history on that one.
