Where are they going in such a hurry?

It happens every day between here and town (6 miles). I am a fast driver, always at or above the posted limit, but I look up and a car or truck is hard and hot on my tail. They will pass on a hill, on a a double yellow..often 20 over. Question is "where are they going?" most are headed for a worn-out little village that no longer even has a convenience store or gas station or school. Nothing there but little old houses. It isn't work related, it isn't kids getting off from school, it isn't farm chores (no farms). At 4:20 PM they will run you off the road to get "there". What is "there" worth killing someone for?

Of course, 2 hours later they will run you over going the other way to town to get Pizza for dinner.

Same here pass going up hill on double lines, use no directional, no lights on in the rain, amazing. 4:20 u say? Maybe there all in a hurry to go get high! Lol, glad it's not just in my area. One day I wanna just slam on the breaks and see what happens! Hey a squirrel ran out in front of me. People are nothing but drones these days!

In Mich the only place 70 is the speed limit is on the expressway, but 70 is THE speed for ALL roads for 90% of the drivers. Most surface roads are 55mph but try to go the "usual 5 over" and you'll be blasted right off the road. In Mich speed limits and red lights are mere suggestions and horrific deadly crashes are the proof- at least, lately. And, if no one follows civil laws they will most likely not follow criminal laws.

try going down the road with a tandem dump truck loaded at the legal limit (12 ton of truck & 15 ton of whatever ), Doing speed limit and some
a**hole passes with about 500- 600' to the intersection and slams on his brake to turn, brings your heart right up into your throat !!

I've always had a problem with the bigger hurry my mind is in the faster I drive. Doesn't seem like your going that fast or pulling the bonehead stunts you are until someone points it out. Or you dang near kill yourself (or someone else) I still do it too, guess theres no cure.

I'm spending a few days in Omaha/Council Bluffs and I can truly say I could die a happy man if I never come back to this "rat race". Call me simple but I don't see the point of traffic going 10+ over and locking the brakes to stop, cutting people off etc. I like my small town "relaxed" pace. When driving around here I get road rage so bad I want to put a roll cage in and re live my dirt track days!lol

What is called ME FIRST SYNDROME.It happens here more times than not, going to town on a two lane road, someone passes you on a yellow line, less than a block and turns left on the end of their driveway.

Someone I work with last Saturday night drove through a red light, & killed his 5 +/- year old daughter, also broke his sons leg, & is still in the hospital. Dont know what happened to the people he hit; but if You dont want to be hit yourself than call the police, & tell them what time to expect the vehicle, & ask them to stop them & have a nice little chat them. If the police are anything like the ones around here; they wont have any problem with it!

Lou is right, it's "me first" syndrome.

The people in my area have it bad too, although they use slightly different tactics and are usually talking on a cell phone.

It's like that all over. Watch out for your self. Everything is out of control. And I don't see it getting anything but worse. I think it's supposed to get worse, and worse, till the end. Then it starts all over again. Who knows........

Oh Man, you guys have not lived until you have been in east coast city traffic (Southern California is worse I am sure). I regularly need to drive into Baltimore for meetings during rush hour. Nothing like rounding a corner on the beltway and seeing brake lights 4 lanes wide as far as you can see. Once had business in Omaha and spent the nights with family in Papilion. Kept hearing about the rush traffic being so bad for one reason or another the week I was there. Kept my mouth shut, but had cruised into and out of the city at 55+ and thought traffic was really light.

Happened to me the other day. Driving 10(km) over th limit and a guy comes up behind me at least 40 km over and passes me on a double solid. I may pass somone going 10 over, but only because 1/2 mile back they were going 10 under. Unless your going up a hill, keep your dang speed steady. I'm bad after driving in a place like downtown Toronto. Ya gotta be a bigger as$ then the taxi drivers so you get to cutting people off, and every other thing you didn't do before. Takes a bit of time to get it out of your system.

I wasI doing 15K over the limit and just had some dolt pass , pull back into the lane, hit the brakes and sit and wait to make a left turn. I was on the way to a meeting or would have followed the driver to see what was so important to race to.

A few years ago I drove through morning rush hour traffic in Phoenix to get to the airport to fly to Omaha. A few hours later when I got in traffic in Omaha it seemed docile compared to what I'd been through in Phoenix. Jim

glen is right, just try driving a truck, weather its the tandem or the semi people will pass it, and it doesnt mater how fast the truck is going, they are tought to pass it no matter what, blind curves, no passing zones, they absoulutly must pass that truck, just stupid, i got passed thursday in the semi, now this is the west, its possible to run 80 to 100 miles and not hit a town in some areas, i was in one of those areas and i was making up some time on a 4 lane and bumping 85 mph [ the big cat was tached out] i got passed by a newer car [ they all look like a egg to me] with out of state plates, they had to be hitting 100 easy, no place to go, the next town was still 40 miles up the road, but it was a truck, and the just must pass it..

Jay, you say that drivers in NY don't use lights while drivng in the rain. You ought to live in my part of Ky, drivers don't use lights at dusk. Seems they can see but don't want to be seen. They also sneak through after the traffic light turns red. My rant for the day. Joe

I work in traffic, I run a high reach bucket truck and work on such things as traffic signal lights over head traffic signs everything to do with directing traffic.People are crazy drivers me first and in a hurry.People drink coffee by the gallons and not just regular coffee but super charged high caffeine stuff and energy drinks, multi million dollar product. And then you hear folks complain about how hectic and fast paced their lives are.I wonder why ?Me I'd rather sit back relax and smell the flowers now and then.

I have someone riding right up on me all the time. I don't go over the speed limit because it is law. Anyhow, many times I will pull over to let the speeding clown get by me. Funny thing is, two times in the last 6 months after doing this, I have found that car who was in such a hurry to be pulled over by a police car. ....I was getting to my destination much faster and cheaper than he/she did!

The bigger the city the worse the traffic is.

About 25 years ago in Nashville, TN I was often stuck in the normal morning traffic jams on I-24 ten miles south of the city (before it was widened to three lanes past Bell Road). Traffic would alternate between 30 MPH and a dead stop. Every few minutes a vehicle would fly by on the right hand shoulder of the road at 50-60 MPH or more. Most often these vehicles were motorcycles or FWD pickups lifted high on oversized tires, once in a while it would be a police car or an ambulance with the lights flashing.

One morning a small dark car flew by on the shoulder at an even higher than normal speed. It had a "Student Driver" sign on the trunk and there was only one person in the car. Another co-worker saw it too. We concluded he was a driving instructor trying to get to class on time.

Don't know why it is, but around my area on the interstate speed limit 70, everyones doing 70-75 on uncrowded rural four lane. Closer I get to Detroit, the faster traffic goes. Everyones doing 85 and bumper to bumper. Guess they have some sort of death wish.
