Death to pennies

How big a space would it take to hold our nationsl debt in pennies? Wonder if there is that many?

I don't know, but my dad told a story about a fellow who bought a new Model T Ford.

He carried in a huge jar of nickels, and when they counted it out, it was right down to the nickel.

When I was stationed in Germany decades ago, our pay checks were cashed to the penny, but no PXs took pennies per say, because everything was rounded to the nearest nickle. That was the early '80's. I was a fan of get rid of them then. Now that they don't even have the Lincoln Memorial on the back anymore, and I'm not certain that's even copper they're made of anymore, they go into the trash can to get them out of circulation. Been doing that for years.

I had my taxes done the other day and on the federal return the amount that I owed was rounded up to the nearest dollar. My son's return was rounded to the nearest dollar. The only conclusion I could come up with is that the federal government has no cents.

(quoted from post at 18:34:10 02/16/12) Wow.

And some people think we are in hard times.

It is an indication of hard times,..the dollar is losing it's value all the time. People need to stop looking at prices going up,...it is really the dollar going down.

Wife and I have always dumped our pennies into an old 4 gallon milk jug. We filled it up many years ago, and now have 8 gallons of them. About $50 per gallon. Probably never cash them in, but the kids can someday. . .
