Silly things!

I went to kmart Sunday spent $23 bucks on some things, girl at register takes out a pen and marks a line on the 20??? You know it might be fake. Well today I gave a logger $550 for a load of logs, he dident whip out a pen and check it! I thought this whole thing was funny, I mean does anyone really counterfeit alot of money, these days. I would think it would be very hard with all the technology. I laughed at that moonshiners show last fall, ever hear of google earth.... And these guys r making shine in the woods!

Jay, Mom's been at bank here in Northern, MN 26 years. Says it's going on here in the sticks as well. The copy machine technology and bleaching out of smaller denominations is the ticket for the crooks.

I can print bills from my home printer that will fool most clerks. Bleach a one dollar bill and use the paper to print what ever you want. Two weeks ago someone in town was passing One dollar bills(nuts).

Come on now! You mean to tell us you don't know what that lumberjack would do if he found out later that you had passed worthless bills on him? Not much the girl could do other than loose her job.

If I remember right you are here in Illinois also.

There are a LOT of bad bills in Macomb. Basically ones and fives so far.

I have went through a hassle at a gas station when I tried to spend one of the fives I got somewhere in change. The serial number matched the fakes that are being passed.

They are trying to catch whoever is doing this, but seem to be about two steps behind them. I think whoever is printing the fakes must spend them all in just a VERY short period of time. By the time the serial number is recognized as being fake, the only ones being hassled are the victims who have ended up with a fake.

I hope they catch them. DOUG

Look at it another way how many millions of dollars does K-mart take in across the country every day? If they have 2% counterfeit a day it's probably more than the logger handles in a year. Plus there is always the theory that K-mart is a big mean evil corporation so it's okay to steal from them, especially since they fired my best friend's cousin's sister in law because she only missed 5 shifts without calling in that week. Occupy K-mart!!!!!

A few years back some local federal agents visited the graphic arts agency my brother worked for. Asked him to show them what the then-current technolgy could do in the way of replicating currency. He said it only took a few minutes of half-a@@ing around to shake them up.

A lot of retailers do this, but usually only for a $50 or larger bill.

From their end it makes sense, doesn't take but 2 seconds for the cashier to swipe that marker across the bill and eventually it probably saves them hundreds for $s.

LOL was going to say something like that, The logging industry up here has taken a beating already. Those guys are in no mood for B.S. I'd be afraid for my safety passing those guys funny money!

Well I'm an honest person, and would never stick it to an AMERICAIAN logger. But if I were in
A situation like that, I'd be more worried about a phony 550 bucks than 20 bucks! Lol

Most retailers will do this for larger bills.
There is alot of counterfeit 100's out there. The nation of Iran deliberately counterfeits US currency to undermine our economy. Of course the US government prints the he11 out of our currency because of the spending boom......The government spending boom that is.

Business's handle a lot of cash and get to keep very little. Don't take much fake money to put them in the red.

You should be very careful if you go from your house to your barn in the dark, there is probaobly an Iranian or a subversive lurking in the bushes to steal your money since you are known to be such a hoarder of great wealth.
Them bad guys are everywhere! Best to stay home, lock up tight, load the guns and avoid city slickers & furiners.

Unfortunately, Your biggest worry is the local church deacons hopped up kid on meth.

Place a bill on a white sheet of paper and dig you finger nail hard on the bill as you skid it across. US money has ink that never dries. Good money will leave a green skid mark.

Well, the folks that work at Kmart don't make much money, and I'm sure really need their jobs. If the boss says "Do it", they're going to do it. Should they get a counterfeit bill, and when security plays back the video, my guess is that they had better be checking the bills with a marker during video playback. Can't say that I blame them, especially for what they make when they could just as easily be sitting at home probably making as much or maybe more, collecting a check paying them to sit at home, by someone else.

Let them mark the bills.

Mark

We had a high end digital copy machine at work, when the rep showed up to configure it he warned us, before any of you try, don't try to copy money on it. It recognizes patterns on US currency and will lock the machine out and cause him a big headache trying to get it up and running again. Of course we're in Canada so its pointless copying our money on a b&w copier.

Today in my town the police are looking for 2 women trying to pass 2 counterfeit $100.00 bills, somehow made from $5.00 bills.
You never know!

Mid- Tenn. last week they were looking for two women who were spending counterfeit $50 bills. Unusual choice to counterfeit.

My question is, and hopefully always will be without my finding out, what the heck do you do if the pimply faced kid says your bill is counterfeit?
Will they give it back? Do they keep it? Is it this kids markers word against mine? Can I take it back where I got it and get my money back? Yea right!!
I hope I never have to find out!!!

My Niece is the manager of a Subway in town (pop 15,000). She said they get a fake bill about once a month. No, you don't get them back under any circumstance [i:31bb46416e]and[/i:31bb46416e] you get to talk to the local police before you leave.

On the bright side, her personal policy is, you get your meal for free as long as you are cooperative and polite with the store help.... it's no more their fault for finding it as yours for trying to use it.

Tim

Lots of people trying to push fake bills around my area. Read about it in the news all the time.

When I was at WMU Chemical Engineering, there was a branch in the department that was called Printing and Paper Technology. Had to take a couple of classes. Two professors were consulting back and forth with the US mints on new bill design and ink formulas due to the fact that copy/scanner technology was making fake bills that looked all too real.

Rick

p.s. Don't ask me any Chemical engineering questions, I dropped that program.

i dont know if its true, but i heard once that when they changed the bills a few years ago it took a 12 year old with a computer about 10 minutes to duplicate it!And it passed as real.i always wondered why folks always faked the larger bills ,why not a one dollar bill?

That logger would know exactly where every bill came from to track you down, now the cleark in the store with 500 customers in her shift would not know where the bill came from when the drawer was counted out at end of day and then after counting out would be put in the deposit bag for the night deposit at the bank along with the reciepts of all the other registers so when the bank got to finding one they would have no way to trace it. As for the logger when he went to deposit the bill he would find out right now and the law would be on there way to pick you up before he ever got out of the bank lobby. And usually what they find here is 20 with some 10 and a few 5, very seldom any 50 or 100

Well good point but he delivers more than one load Of logs a day to other people in different countys??

A 5 dollar bill has a plastic strip inside that says 5 and usa.Its right under the word IN on the Memorial side.Larger bills have the strip in a different area. The dollar bill has no strip.Hold the bill up to a bright light to see the strip.
