OT: updraft carb with accelarator pump

I'm playing with my model A ford and would like to do a carb change. is there an updraft carb from a 200 inch plus engine that has an accelator pump, like a car? I have a lightened flywheel, and HEI.Any other tips from oldtimers?

The Marvel-Schebler USX series (USX 29, 32, 37, 44 etc) is an accel pump-equipped updraft. It is sized for engines in the 275 - 325 cubic inch range. It was used on the Oliver 1750, 1800, 1850, 1855, etc tractors, and I believe also the JD 4010/4020.

My experience is USX is a VERY fussy carburetor to maintain and keep adjusted. Also most rebuild kits do not include the accel pump diaphragm (the diaphragm is prone to leak and always needs replacement when the carb is rebuilt). But when it's properly set it does work well.

All of the Ford thousand series tractors used Holley updrafts with the power valve. The 4000 had a 192 engine and the 5000 had a 233 engine so either would be in your range.
Many also complain that those carbs are very tempremental tho...

Reciprocating aircraft engines typically use Marvel-Schebler carbs with accelerator pumps. The MA-3 is used on engines between 200 and 300 cubic inches; these engines typically operate at around 2500 rpm. Both the MA-3PA and MA-3SPA have accelerator pumps. If you check eBay you'll find them in varying degrees of dubiousness. The core charge on this carb is 600 bucks, so you probably won't find one in great shape for what you're willing to spend, but parts are readily available as these carburetors are very much still in production.

Mark,
I have a couple Stromberg R7a carbs I would like to sell. I don't care for ebay any longer. You happen to know of a form for aircraft I might advertise them. Also have a mag. These came off a Jacobs.

If you've got a model 'A' with such modifications, I don't see why you want to mess with a Marvel carb. If you've lightened the flywheel, why not take advantage of it? Make an adapter to fit a Weber side-draft, or pitch the whole manifold and put two Webers with a Weber manifold.

old dodge power wagon with flat head six used them might still be available at one of the military surplus truck dealers

Barnstormers.com is a popular site for advertising aircraft and parts. It's a little bit confusing to navigate. Go the home page below, click on "Classified" at the top of the page. You'll see various categories on the left side, click on "Engines-Piston". You'll then see subcategories for "Carburetor", "Parts" and "Jacobs". Take your pick.

I'm sure someone is interested in your Stromberg cores (they're "cores" if they aren't yellow-tagged, regardless of condition). But a lot of Jacobs owners are opting to go with Radial Engines Limited's fuel injection STC. It's mo betta.
