We have our own Solyndra

A few years back, this area lost several industries, including allegedly the largest refrigerator manufacturer, world wide. Lost a couple thousand jobs directly, probably far more as a result. Our governor brought in a solar panel manufacturer which was supposed to be the salvation of the area. I can only imagine the deals that went on to get it here. Never really prospered. Now, with European countries withdrawing their support for solar energy projects, the bottom has dropped out of the solar industry. Now our wonderful savior factory is filing for bankruptcy. Could have predicted that one. Thanks Jennifer.

I live about five miles from the defunct Solyndra plant. One day last year as we were driving past, I told DW that place won't be in business very much longer. They closed the next day.

I saw that on Channel 8 at noon yesterday. I knew when the original owner sold it right after they got those buildings put up,that it was all a scam. The guy had a patent, but he needed brick and mortar to sell a business and retire. He was the only one to come out on top on that deal. The guy's probably somewhere in Mexico or the Carribean right now.

The reason the solar panel industry in the US collapsed is because China invested $5 Billion dollars to build panels, effectively cutting the rug out of the US manufactures due to lower labor cost and economy of scale. Plus, our brillant Congress had an on again off again subsidy program for homeowners to install systems. Therefore, while the the US owned the market no long term plans to invest could be made because no one could predict what these d--k head congressman would do.
