so much for a peaceful Sunday...

ot everything caught up yesterday so today would be a quick loop to check everyone and feed a couple that get controlled feed then chill on the couch til evening chore time... Make the loop and find a 2 year old standing on 3 legs with the 4th twice the size it should be. Hundred mile trailer trip to the clinic... Xrays showed nothing broken or injured, just a bad infection.... Gotta wait til tomorrow to see if he gets past the first stage of antibiotics then a week +/- to see if he's gonna be back to normal or be salami.........
 
I have bveen in the cow business all my life. I learnt to be my own vet in just about every situation. Sure made the bottom line at the end of the year look better. I figured out I could save just about every thing a vet could, and didn't have that high dollar bill to pay and still a dead cow also. May ought to think about that with your animals.

We do also in pretty much all cases, I do hooves myself except the first trim on the babies, vaccines, etc is done by us. Wife prolly has more vet school text books than some vets. In this case, we had no way of knowing if it was a bone/tendon injury and he went from playing around to what I found in 12 hours or so.... He is insured as far as vet expenses and I think the owner even has a life insurance policy on him but still don't want anything to happen to the guy. He was born here and is the most stress free and coolheaded of the bunch. Sold him in the fall, but the lady can't take him home til April.

Don't pay any attention to the village idiots, I try not to myself..... Thier life must suck if it makes them feel important or just better in general to badmouth someone they don't even know... To each thier own....

Gee Dave you want a stress free Sunday you have to do 2 things....get rid of the livestock and the wife!

I got pretty attached to the ole bat, but there are times when I think about what it'd be like with only two riding horses instead of breeders....
