Things are going great with the mill. Im learning something new every day. A fella ordered a 10 foot 3x12 so he can build a new mantel for his fire place, I think he will be happy with his plank!

(quoted from post at 20:05:48 02/12/12) That mantle has lots of character. Is that wood from the
aspen/popple family? Looks like a fine job.
Zach
ts a white poplar and its dang heavy! I dont have a canthook yet and it was a b!tch rolling the log! LOL

(quoted from post at 21:05:53 02/12/12) You might well have answered these questions before, but what diameter is your blade? Does it have insert teeth?
ts a 48 inch blade and it does have insert teeth. Its also time for a sharpening.

When that plank is planed and finished it'll be very pretty. Good job, not everyone can saw for grain. Makes a real difference if the wood is going to be finished. Just a thought, you might make some ramp to raise that old Massey a bit and straighten out the PTO shaft, make the u-joints last longer and the saw run smoother.

a I know about the tractor, its been kinda bugging me. I want to find a different power source, something more permanent. I will be useing the massey for farming in a couple of months.

I run a bandmill, it would give me the willies working in a plane of
the blade while rolling logs on or dogging them. I've seen the 1"
lexan operators window at a mill with a tooth stuck in it.

Rolling and dogging is the safe part. The bit's and rings never just fly out. You either hit a spike or the blade guide arm break's pulling the blade into the headblock slide before the bullets start flying. Any wobble on the front side or top of the blade or hear a zing & you better hit the dirt fast. A machine gun is slow compared to sawbit's flying.

who swages your sawteeth? On the plank I see the marks of some teeth that are too wide. Grain looks like Hickory but that log is not showing Hickory bark. What species?

good to know. i have a saw that i want to change from a belt drive to that. do you have any trouble with slippage??
