After watching some TV the past few nights, I've learned a few things from the commercials. Ford trucks are better than Dodge and Chevy. Dodge trucks are better than Chevy and Ford. And Chevy trucks are better than Ford and Dodge. I think I'll go back to watching the polka party on RFD.

Welcome to the throw away world! How many 2012 gmc 1500s do u think people will keep and restore?? Everything is built to throw away. Ya there comfy and r 2012 looking, but other than that there not keepers, expensive junk that will end up back in china! A New automobile is the worst investment u can make.

My newest truck is a 2000 f250 ps diesel, I had a 2002 chevy,
always happy with my 73, 84 , 89 Chevys, but 02 chevy was
a joke, so I went to ford! Yep I'm happy with it. No wonder
gm needed a bail out, they build crap noone wants to buy.
But now they can fund a super bowl commercial and they
pulled the wool over everyone's eyes again!! Lol

The real test is a trip to the sale barn. Last time I was in line to unload calves, there were 16 pickups with 5th wheel trailers ahead of me. 11 Fords, 3 Chevy, 2 Dodge.

I"m sure there are more Chevys and Dodges in the world, but when you need to use a pickup for a TRUCK, most go Ford.
Those who use a pickup for a car, tend to go Chevy or some other something or other.

I have the best of both worlds. A 2005 Blazer zr2
and a 1996 Ford F250. And a 1955 Ford 640. And
plan on keeping all 3.

You're the only person I've seen that still has a Blazer Zr2 that hasn't been totalled out from a rollover. Give it time.

Around here, the "working" trucks are lead by Dodge hands down. Even know of die-hard Ford people that have switched and never looked back.

Depends on your area. Didn't think much about and about 2 years ago picked up a Ford to have around the farm. Then got a recall notice and looked for a dealer; there are 3 GM dealers inside of 10 miles and not 1 Ford or Dodge.

A mechanic told my son once when he was buying his first truck. He said he loved Chevy's but he drove a ford because he didn't want to work weekends. That was several years ago when my boy was just getting started and I still did not know anything. I think I got alot smarter about the time he turned thirty. LOL

How many 2012 gmc 1500s do u think people will keep and restore??

I suspect, just as many as ever...

Nobody bought a truck in the 1960's and 1970's with the intent of keeping it and restoring it 40 years down the line. In fact most of them ended up in junkyards.

People were saying the same kind of thing about tractors back in the 1990's: "Where are these Magnums going to be in 20 years? We'll still be running these old H's and M's, and the Magnums will be in the scrap heap." The fact is there are a lot of first-generation Magnums out there with 10's of thousands of hours on them still going strong 20+ years later.

The truth is, you don't know and more often than not you're dead wrong. By you I mean all of us.

My truck is 9 years old. Some grouchy old man told me they were throwaway trucks when I bought it, wouldn't last 3 years. Here we are nearly a decade and 165,000 miles later. Still looks good, still runs good, still drives good. I have no intention of getting rid of it any time soon. That's saying a lot considering that they coat the road with salt any time a flake of snow falls.

That sure is a FINE LOOKING truck !!!!

I wish someone built good looking trucks today. They all copy each others ugly styles.

one has the highest torque, other has the highest hp,other the highest towing capacity!they all need to be the best at something, thats the american way! LOL.Probably more are sold on looks than anything else.to me its sort of like saying one has carpeted floorboards and the other rubber.its all just advertising done with smoke and mirrors.

While I am not in the market for a new truck, if I did have the itch I'd look around at some folks who make their live'n with a pick up.

Buddy of mine started haul'n yard barns for the local mennonites about 12 years ago. He started with one 3/4 ton truck and fill'n lots close to home by himself. Now he has 5 or 6 trucks on the road at any time run'n 4+ hours out in every direction. He trades them quick before they get to 100,000 miles. Every few years he will buy a Dodge, Ford, and Chevy at the same time and keep up with what it cost (include'n down time and he swap seats them so it's not one guy'n tear'n one of them up while the others get babied) to get the three to 100,000 miles. For the last 5 or 6 years his main fleet has been all Chevys.

A lot has to do with the care and upkeep, all are good vehicles, I have a 2007 Chev 3500 4x4 duramax bought new and only driven by me, 143600 miles, all pulling a 25ft gooseneck, no issues, no leaks, runs today as good as new, also own a 2003 Chev Suburban 4x4, 135200 miles no problems ever, by the way the truck still has the origional brakes and still are about 50%.

For the most part we buy what we like and in many cases the same make as before. My dad had Ford trucks on the farm I learned to drive o a Ford truck. Guess what's parked in my driveway? I sold cars when I got out of the Air Force, used to be 90% of the purchase decision was brand loyalty until the manufacturers started changing things. The year I sold cars at a Lincoln-Mercury dealership we took more Chevys in trade then they had in the last 10 years. Due to warranty issues that Ford never addressed my wife now drives a Dodge. It has been the least reliable new vehicle we ever owned, but it spent less time at the dealer than the Ford and they fixed everything my next new truck will be a Dodge because I won't have to dump $1,500 into it fixing leaks, squeaks rattling injectors and such-too bad.

never been a GM guy but always thought the early 70's models were the better looking trucks.

(quoted from post at 10:48:30 02/09/12) Until you add Chevrolet AND GMC, then Ford is not the best selling truck.

LOL it is funny, I know guys who drive GMC and will not even look at a Chevy. One even claims that "real trucks don't wear bowties". Point out to him that they have the same engines and drive trains, body and electronics and he gets mad.

Round here most of the farm PU's are an even split, Chevy/GM and Ford. Most of the Dodge trucks are owned by town dwellers.

Fellows you should stop in to an independant auto dealership and talk to the people who work there. We just had a person in here trying to unload a 2009 F250 with a 6.0 in it, 95000 miles, he wanted $7500.00 for it. Boss IS a Ford man and he told him to go peddle it somewhere else. We will trade for Dodge and Chevy diesels and have good luck with them. Orders are not trade for any Ford diesel that includes the 7.3's they are getting too old to be dependable.

Well maybe down south, but here in NY you'd be lucky to
have anything left in 30 years from a 2012 truck like a chevy
1500 prolly rot away to nothing, cheap steel there made out
of.I would guess a 69 charger has a heavier rear end than a
2012 silversdo 1500??? lol prolly more leaf springs too!

Your choice. You can buy a Fiat Italian Owned Dodge. You can buy a Hussein Nobama union owned general motors. You can buy a Ford who runs their own company, without bailouts.
Tom

I have a 2000 K2500 chevrolet silverado (new style) 6.0, 4X4, Auto. One of ther best trucks I have ever had.....178XXX miles on it.....only batteries, tires, and brakes!
Some guys swear by dodge, but the truck will fall apart.....cummins is good......dodge truck not so good! I also have several F350 sercice trucks and a 02 excursion w/ the 7.3, good motor and truck....but not the 6.0!!
