560 IH help

I have two questions that I hope someone will help me solve. Will the power steering cylinder from an IH 560W interchange with one from an IH660 or are they different. Second question is how do you clean the air cleaner from an IH 560w. The wire filter is gumed up with oil. Can it come apart to clean or can you soak the old oil out of it? Thanks for any help!!!!

I don't know if they come apart but someone put them together so maybe. We always just turned them upside down and sloshed diesel, kerosene in them then right side up for a day to drain.

Well this may work and it may not , Get yourself a 5 gallon metal bucket and something like Mr. clean or janitor in a drum mix it strong with water and heat it to a boil and let it cook with the air cleaner in the boiling water even Dawn might work . I have done this on pistons and they come out clean. BUT DO IT OUTSIDE the fumes will get ya and if they don't the wife will.

I don't know about the steering but I had one in the shop last year that the mesh was a rusty plugged mess. They had the right product at the store on this site. I believe it took 3 rolls and I had to die grind the spot welds that held the bottom cover on and then brazed those spots after cleaning and refilling with the new mesh.
Good Luck,
Andy

Looked in the parts book they have the same parts numbers should interchange. On the breather I used my hotsy washer the hot water melted the greese and dirt out.

There are two cylinders listed for W560 and 660. Each cylinder is listed for use with both models. It must be a situation where there is an early and late but there is no cut-off number for the changeover. This would seem to indicate that either cylinder can be used on any W560 or 660.

It is odd that this question comes up now. Yesterday, I received an eBay 660 cylinder and linkage. It appears identical to my existing 660 hardware except that the piston rod has a smaller diameter. The port configurations and front and rear mounts are the same.

The smaller rod was probably used to achieve more equalization in the displacement for left and right turns.

It is also interesting to compare 650 and 660 PS systems. With considerable rework, the later system could be made to work on the 650 and all 9 series. I have both models with PS so it would be easy for me as I have the pattern.

Soak it in gas.

Here is a air cleaner I cleaned up last year.

Carefully drill out the spot welds holding the cage to the body. Pull element out of the body and unwind it. It unravels easily, be careful with it! Use a large tub full of hot water and, like tractor vet says, Dawn. That stuff is a real grease-cutter. Lay it out flat and just wash sections of it at a time. To get it back in, wind it around a plastic pipe that is slightly larger in diameter than the air cleaner center tube. Stuff it back in the body, put the cage back in place and you're done. You can put some screws in it to hold it place but it's not really necessary, it's not going anywhere. I had assumed your air cleaner was stuffed with chaff like mine was, but if it's only oil, pour a whole mess of Dawn in the filter and some really hot water. Whatever remains in there will eventually be removed by the filter's drain-back every time the engine is stopped. The lighter the oil, the faster the cleaning process. You can try kerosine, but I think the engine might consume it, which will defeat your purpose.
