I've located a Minneapolis Moline that looks like a big U with a huge front differential. A lot of iron. I can't find out what model it could be and didn't take any photos (dumme), I didn't know MM made 4wd's back in the 40's & 50's. Any help appreciated.

If it is an articulated 4wd tractor itcould be a "Strutgart" built tractor. I am not sure if that is correct spelling, but I believe the Strutgart brothers or farms were from the southern United States. They built frames that mated two U's or G's together and made one large 4wd tractor. I have heard the story before, but I may have my facts mixed up, but I believe they made quite a few of these tractors by combining two tractors together. It wasn't until the late 60's that MM made the first production 4wd the A4T 1400 and 1600.

Heres the story

Thanks for that detailed story, didnt realize that Stuttgart was the name of the town, very interesting.

Thanks you so much for this post, even though I farmed just south of Stuttgart, I didn't get to see one of these, the first articulating tractor I ever saw was a MRS
again thanks

I was at Sikeston Mo. There were 3 of them for sale. We just thought they were home-made. These had 605 power unit engines, with the hoods on them and the gauges mounted on the back. These had a cog belt drive down to the front trans-differential. Used the power-unit hand clutch. No cab. just a seat. Looked like GB rear ends. The guy I was with was always sorry, that he didn't try to buy one. Later bought a A4T 1600 and put a 844 Cummins in it. Vic
