Gonna plant potatoes tomorrow.
Plowed one garden today and it was just right. Will wait and plant more later.

As warm as it's been lately even here in Ohio -- almost-- makes us think we could plant something. Fact I teased one guy today whether he's getting his corn planter ready. He said he should have planted last fall. Of course he's joking and I have a hunch old man winter will pay us a visit yet.

I'm way ahead of you....got a half row of carrots that need to be dug...(been eating them all winter).

I have about 40', of carrots still in the ground, but can only use around 1/3 of each one, (the pointy end). A pocket gopher, or some kind of rodent, made a straight line, down the row, cutting the tops and largest part of the carrots off, about 3" underground. The calves like them!

Pulled some green onions last night for supper . I would have planted a longer row last fall if I could have predicted this winter .

My dad always tried to plant them the middle of February and usually made a good crop. I planted in January once and did OK. The last few years I have waited and planted later and not done too well. I feel like I need to get them in the ground now while I can and will just keep hilling them up till chance of frost is past.
Will try to post pics of planting later.

Richard,Your post is right on,a lot of people think your crazy becaues people dont relize the different tempatures and growing regions of the US.I just purshased a old potato digger and were in the works of getting it freed up.We only plant 250 lbs of patotes a year but I love old equipment.Do you plant cabbage when you plant your potatoes,or what else do you plant early

We are in southern MO. Every year, in order to have early new potatoes for the farmers markets, I lay an 16x100 sheet of greenhouse plastic down to warm the soil. This is usually early in February. We did this yesterday. When seed potatoes become available locally in about two weeks, we should be able to get a few hundred feet of potatoes planted right off the bat. Unless of course winter decides to make a belated appearance.

The above photos show three 100 foot rows I planted yesterday. The furrow plow is one I welded up from mule plow parts. The covering is of course two hillers and Tick Tock is the supervisor and sneak potato thief.
It is raining today.
