Bought a "99 Yamaha Beartracker 250. It runs fine but the engine seems to kick back against the starter when it"s cold, like the timing is advanced too far. From what I"ve read there is no timing adjustment. I don"t have a service manual. Does anyone know of an adjustment, or what else might cause the problem? Always starts fine once it"s warmed up.

I've got the same thing rebadged to a chinese name... Was doing the same thing and I finally replaced the carb with a 50 buck (new/rebuilt) ebay carb and it was much better then switched to an Autolite 4163 sparkplug and it's just fine... I've got the owners manual for the beartracker and a service manual on my work computer that I'll be on in a few hours. Shoot me an email and I'll send what I can to you.

(quoted from post at 12:34:04 02/02/12) Where is the advance mechanism? Can it be adjusted?
What kind of internet /email connection do you have?? Can you handle a 28mb file? Did the owners manual I sent come thru?

The rubber boot between the carb and the manifold will separate slightly where they are vulcanized together causing it to run lean. I had to glue mine and put a hose clamp around it. You might check that

That's right... Mine was all cracked and, not being sure, smeared the whole thing with shoegoo... seemed to help a little but I had worse problems and don't know how bad the boot actually was.....

(quoted from post at 20:16:38 02/02/12) Actually, got the user manual, not service manual.

That's why I asked you if you could handle a 28MB attachment.... I couldn't find the free link to send you for a download. Don't want tolock you up if you have a slow connection.
