(quoted from post at 14:18:43 01/29/12) Just got my real estate tax bill. Most of my farm ground tax has went up 100% to 300% since last year. Then they spend millions on a new school we can't afford. Now they need a new levy to run the school.
I agree 100% It's not the building that educates kids. Here in Michigan, the school districts are building monuments like you mention. Big thing they mentioned after a recent millage vote was the "smart" boards they have in every classroom. Cost a bunch of money. Heck, the boards are smarter than the kids AND the teacher in the class. I learned with chalkboards and got a degree in college without "smart" boards. Just a big waste of money.(quoted from post at 19:55:49 01/29/12) yeah - schools are out of control.
Our small town just approved a new school - 35 million - we pay half, the state kicks in half.
Fools around here view the half the state kicks in as "free money". They don't seem to get that state taxes come out of our pockets too!
I wouldn't mind so much if the design of the school wasn't so ridiculously expensive. Big curved glass front - lots of "open space".
Meanwhile, they're tearing down the old school and MY kids get to go to school in temporary trailers!
It all won't be done till my kids are through with school.
So not only to I get to pay for the school, but my kids get to go to school in trailers!
I just don't get why if my kids can learn just as well in small temporary shelters... can't we just keep them, and save 30 milion dollars???
