my 1962 F-750 ford truck was a former Fire Truck the truck runs perfect yet but im going to sell it it has a V-8 engine it but i cant find out what engine it has.useally there is a tag somewhere around coil or distributer, the distributer is at the back of engine, there is a stamp on door that reads or looks like U-5,M/D i dont have a clue what that is. anyone like to guess what size the V8 engine might be.
 
They made a Y block truck engine late 50s, maby kept it till 62 that was a 352, no relation to the 58 352 FE engines.
 
If the distributor is in the back of the engine it is a 292, or 312. If it is in the front of the engine it is the 352 or 332 engine. HTH

If you can tell me the vin, I can tell what engine it has. Somewhere I have an old Ford pamphlet that tells what the vin data means. Not sure what you got, could be 292, 312 as far as I recall was not used in trucks, most likely one of the lincoln blocks used for truck. Just got the book, it does 63 to 70, but 62 was pretty much the same. Lincoln block was still used in 63, a 302 and 332 CI. That engine had the dist in the back too. Looks like 64 was the first year of the FE block in trucks and end of Lincoln. Your id should look like F75xy.... , the x character will be engine code
 
i'm a ford lover with old cars also,,,yes it'a "Y" block that is a 292 the 312 didn't last but a couple of years...those were the only different style bolcks compaired to other styles: [the pics aren't my truck, saw it 4-sale in post, wish i had it....

There were 2 different Y Block engines used in those Heavy Duty trucks- a Ford and a Lincoln. They both have the distributor in the rear. Very few parts are interchangeable.
 
There definitely was a HD version of it, and the Lincoln's I think had a different exhaust manifold pattern. My 292 in the below '64 F-600 has a straight across pattern, the other ones have a staggered pattern. According to the book, you could have either the HD version and the non HD version, when I looked at the door tag and read the codes for the number in the original ford repair manual, seems mine is not the HD version, I can't recall where the distributor is now, on it, thought it was in the back.

Those were good ole trucks, those tandem 850's(maybe that one is a single axle) with the 5x4 trans, I used to run one with a detroit and allison auto, thing had the fastest raising dump box I ever saw. The oil nonsense in the early 70's made these unpopular, my friends dad had a fleet of them working til the late 80's and finally scrapped the last of them a few years ago.

Don't know what it is about them but I always liked the body style, the interior of these and the gear/lightening bolt emblem, my original floor mat has that on it.

Old trucks are cool in my book, I enjoy driving mine, people look and stare, just like a classic car, maybe more so, as you don't see ones like my F-600 very often around here, and I will tell you its one heck of a firewood getter !
 
F750 used 302 Lincoln based Y block. Much like the 332 engine used in F800. Not to be confused with 332 Ford car engine or 330 truck engine. The 330 truck engine did not begin till 64 tho.
engine codes C and D were 292s.N was 302, F was 332. Fourth digit in serial # should be engine code.
