David Bradley 600- Clutch Question

I recently acquired a 1958 DB 600 with the Wisconsin 6 hp engine. I have been using the tractor with the single plow implement. The tractor will move forward with the hand clutch in the 'down' position, but will stop under what I consider to be a light load. It will only power through if I apply downward pressure to the clutch handle. Is this how the tractor is supposed to act? I have never owned or operated one of these, but I can't help but think that something maybe wrong with the clutch. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Tommy

I'm no expert but it sounds like your clutch spring is broken or weak from age. Could also simply have a worn out clutch.
Sounds like it needs to come apart either way and maybe once apart it will be obvious whats wrong. Good luck!

The clutch should have a distinct ' CLICK ' when going from the rear / disengaged position to the forward / engaged drive position. That clutch can be adjusted if it is just slipping a little.
The manual has good directions for clutch adjustment but is too long to copy here

Tom, Type in David Bradley in Google search, go to the page with model numbers on it. Scroll down through the descriptions and find one that says "Ball Lock Clutch", it should be in blue. Click on that and it will bring up a page of instructions on how to adjust the clutch. Lots of info. on DBs there. Hope this helps. Lowell
