my 400 hydraulics quit working. they worked fine when i put it away, i got it out five days later and there was nothing. i took the screen out of the reservoir, no ice and not plugged. it's a gas and still runs fine and doesn't labor when you run the hydraulic levers.any ideas what is wrong?

It may have lots prime. The hydraulic pump is on the right side in front of the distributer. The hydraulic lines go up and over the back of the engine. It is not an uncommon problem. There is a way to blow air into the reservoir and help it prime. I don't remember exactly how to do this on a IH 400.

Ask over on the IH forum. Those guys would be more familiar with a IH 400. It has been too long since I worked on one.

I know the IH guys thought that the hydraulics on the 100 series went back wards until the 50 series.

Putting 20psi in the reservoir with a pipe fitting (not more) will prime it when the levers are worled and the engine is running. If there is a leaky Oring in the pump suction side, or a pinhole in the steel lines, it will do it as well. Pressure in the reservoir and a squirt bottle of soap water ac also show up the suction leak! Jim
