Just wondering which others out there use on this board. Myself, I perfer Classic view probabley because thats what I first started with on this board. Must admit I don't have much experience with Modern view. Any advantages to using Modern veiw over Classic?? Rocko.

i use the classic view, it was what i got used to, and its just simpler for me to stay with it

I use classic here, but other forums I go to use the same modern type view, but 99% of those folks have the courtesy to "qoute" a reply,or at least use your name in the reply. There are those that do that here, and in fact gets into classic mode, but still hard to follow.

After 10 years in classic I decided to check out modern after a comment that someone made. I switched over six months ago. The biggest difference is that whenever someone adds to a thread it brings that thread back to the top so you are aware of the activity on older posts. It also shows you what threads have been active since your last scroll through.

I much prefer the CLASSIC view. However, from time to time, I will flick to the MODERN view just to see if some old thread has been brought to the top.

Classic.
If I counted right, that is 9 classic and one maybe modern.
Just like I have all ways thought, people like things simple.

I like modern, but like was said earlier, it's hard to tell who someone is replying to and folks get bent out of shape sometimes for no reason...

But, whether you use modern or classic, if everyone registered would go to modern and fill out the profile (at least rough location), it'd save a lot of questions that usually lead to threads gettin hijacked... Then, before someone says "where ya from", they can click on modern and see right away.

Bet some of these folks use the handcrank even tho they have a good battery and starter on the tractor.......

I'm using classic. I'll use modern to edit and maybe see where someone is from(if they fill it in) but modern is too slow. I also like seeing who has responded without clicking and like haveing the posts staying in the same order all the time.

I use Modern and would never want to go back to Classic. As stated replies to a thread on Modern rise to the top of the page similar to the way cream rises to the top on fresh milk. One problem is having both Modern and Classic on the same forum disrupts some posts on one or both styles of viewing.

I think if most people would give the modern view a chance, they'd wonder why they didn't switch sooner. Modern view is so much easier to use. The discussions flow as they should.

Unfortunately, if there were ever a group that is more resistant to change, this is it.

Dave I have noticed recently that you like to publish on the forum.
The last sentence in your reply here is absoultely STELLAR.

If you're referring to me for my smiley faces at least I didn't stoop to calling someone names(four-flushers) just for choosing Classic view.

The both have good and bad points. I like to keep postings in order so I usually use Classic view. I don't miss postings that way. Some times I maybe away from my computer for a few days. So I can go back in classic and see what has been posted. I like being able to edit a posting on modern. I also like the additional info on modern.

I HATE the way modern keeps the posting order. IF you are away for any time the order makes it easy to miss a new posting.

So I am in Classic 95% of the time that I am on this site.

Except for the fact that when you read them in classic view you have absolutely no idea who you're replying to as the original text is omitted in classic view.
I find the idea of having threads floating around based on last reply absolutely brain dead. If I filed something in a file cabinet under 'D'... I'd want to come back and find it there next week... not somewhere else entirely.

Now when you come back bitching at me, make sure you address it directly to me so I don't have to switch to modern view to see who you're hollering at... because there's often three or more of your reply's in a row at the top of a thread... and I have no idea who they're addressed to. :)

The way I see Classic in relation to your statement is this. If you're away from YT for a few days a new posting could be several pages back while on Modern it will be a lot closer to the first page(because the replied to post move to the top). Plus Modern will highlight the posts as read(at least on Moxzilla Firefox) and when I come back to read posts the ones that I haven't read since visiting ["new posts indicator at left side of topic name will be flashing a different color"]. Granted Modern takes some getting acquainted with but when I go back to Classic(which is very seldom)I'm lost and I used Classic for several yrs before Modern became available. Another thing I like about Modern is one's profile is filled out then I know what part of the world the poster is from because it's displayed under their handle(name)

Give it up....... some folks just refuse to come outta the dark ages....

Worked with a guy a couple years ago that special ordered and waited almost 8 months on a new ford pickup to be delivered over here with a standard trans, manual locks/mirrors, window cranks, AM radio, and non tinted glass, and minus a couple other things. Paid more for it than he coulda walked over and bought an almost loaded one and drove it home just so he could bragg about how backward he was/is.......

You just can't fix them........

Sorry Dave but NO.
This true 1/2 German/1/2 English Texan doesn't give up that easily. If they would give Modern a look then they know these facts from your profile which they can't see on Classic

I thought I'd switch to Classic to see how far down/back this thread was . It's on the bottom of the second page on Classic & on Modern it's the second topic on the first page.

Whatever blows up your skirt..... Just saw a tv show where someone said "you don't need locks for a prison, just prisoners" Talking about the mentality of folks.....

Some folks like candles, some like florescent tubes....

to each thier own.....

And yes to each their own!!!!!!!!!! Some people like you choose to play with horse manure and I don't. My horses always lived in the pasture not the barn.

Dave2 & TxJim,

:? I'm havin' a hard time tryin' ta figger out what youse guys are at each other about! :? From reading earlier posts, it seems that you both prefer "modern"!

Another couple of advantages to "modern" are that you can use quotes (makes it very easy to see who one is responding to), and smileys (gives readers a replacement for voice inflections). I remember someone saying that they wouldn't even read a post if it had quotes or smileys  oh well, their loss!

Dave, (a hard core "modern" user)

Actually I'm not after Dave. I thought my statement was agreeing with his statement. In reality I'm just rattling his chain.
