I havent said anything on here, because, well , you never know, but daughter and her fiance were due to have a baby feb 29th. He had to spend this week in Grandforks ND to train another mechanic in at that shop(they live here in central MN, so the daughter decided to go with him for a little R&R. Well, she was sitting in the hotel room watching a show last night and her water broke, called me in a panic(first child-way to early-he was at the shop). Thankfully we 1 relative that just happened to live 5 minutes from the hotel, fiance was 15 minutes away. I couldnt leave but the wife and sons took off from here about 10 minutes after she called, I couldnt leave because of the poultry operation,by the time they got there at 1a.m. my grandson was here. 5lbs 7 oz, sounds like he is strong but has to spend some time in the NICU. Praying he will be fine. Of all things he decided he wanted to come early, in North Dakota, on the coldest night of the year so far.

Hey, congratulations Dave! You'll make that little guy an excellent grandfather. We will sure keep him in our prayers while he gets stronger and ready to leave the hospital and head out to grandpa's farm.

You's officially old now..... Congrats!!!! Now, look at that pinkstuff on your seeds and see if it's causing your sickness.... Want you to be around to get the grandkids a pony or 5.....

Congratulations! I was born in ND also; early April snowstorm didn't let Dad get to see me for several days. That was back when mothers stayed in the hospital for many days. I think the bill was less than $50. for everything.

A distant cousin of mine, and a dear friend of my wife and I, was born in the back seat of a car stuck in a snow bank out in the country, trying to get to the hospital in a snowstorm. She survived, obviously.

And that was before cell phones and other modern communication. Her parents had called the hospital to let them know they were leaving home, and when they didn't arrive at the hospital at the expected time, the hospital sent a crew to look for them.

Congrats!
Our first was same way - water broke 6 weeks early. He came out right around 5lbs too. Spent about 10 days in the NICU - was forgetting to breathe. Scared the cr*p out of me, but from what I understand that breathing issue is "normal for one that early."
He"s 14 now. No issues other than being a teenager.
Enjoy!

Congratulations Dave! That's fantastic news. Made my morning! Tell Lynn and the boys they're welcome to stop by here on their way home. Now you gotta start shopping for a tractor for the little guy!

That is great.

My son was 6 lbs. 1 oz. when born. He was in NICU for 7 days, observation mostly cause he was 5 weeks early. But he is healthy, Tall and slim like me, he turns 11 next month.

I saw a bumper sticker a while back
"Be careful accidents cause people"

DAVE...From what you've posted, that NICU stay is a normal protocol...just until the youngster gets everything lined out and sure everything is functioning A-OK. My wife...a NICU nurse of over 35 years...says the 5 lb. 7 oz. weight is very good weight for that gestational age.

He'll be ready for that first tractor ride when the weather warms a bit.

Conrats....Rick

My grandson was born as a pre-me at 4lbs,He now plays basket ball and wears 13 size shoes, and 17 years old. These hospitials do this every day. There were twins in the hospital when he was born that weighted 1 lb apeice, with no problem of survial
