I guess I haven't purchased tires in a while. I was pricing a new set for my 05 F150 with 17 in tires. seams like every where I went tires were around 200.00 each. Maybe I'm shopping at the wrong store. No cords showing yet so I will get my money's worth on these before I spring for a new set. stan

I advertise on Craigslist for factory takeoffs....haven't bought a new tire yet for my 04 Dodge Duallie and have lots of spare rims and simulators!

like Eldon, i look on c-list, because the [new to me] 04 dodge dually with those d##m 17 inch tires 10 ply, are hard to find without spending up to $200>250 a piece... i found 4 with enough tread to get me by till i can afford to get new ones.

Yep! Around the 1st of December tires went up about 18%. 18 months ago I bought a pair of 11.2x28's, 4 ply firestones. They were $335.00 each carry out. This past November the same tire was $407. Last March my dad put new tires on his '03 f 150 and they were 17" 4 ply, BFG something. 4 tires, mounted, balanced, stems and disposal, were $854.77.

I shop all the time & the best price I"ve been
able to supply my customers is in the Cooper
Tire line of Discover M & S.. I"ve sold many
of these in various size"s without complaints.
Example 245/70R17 My Price would be 140.00
installed.. 25570r17 would be 145.00 installed.
They make this tire in the LT series 8 ply for
around 30.00 more money.. Check with a Cooper
tire store near you....

Don't waste your time with tirerack.

Their prices aren't all that much cheaper. Then you pay tax. Then you pay shipping. Then you pay for mounting and balancing.

They still manage to get their pound of flesh. You may as well give the money to someone local.

I bought tires from Vulcan Tire on line (Pennsylvania) and got a good price, but it's been a while now. You can find good deals at some of these little independent stores but their tires are probably old and outdated even though they are "new." I got a set of studded tires from vulcan a four years ago for a good price. Still using them for two months every winter.

Tire prices have gone berzerk lately.

On the job a couple of weeks ago, I had occasion to be at a large wholesale tire distributor. In the warehouse, the fellow indicated a particular 38" rear tractor tire and commented that a year ago he'd been selling it for $800. Now, it's $1800.

And all he's doing is passing along increases that have been passed along to him.

I'm driving a 2000 F150 7700 with 16 inch rubber on it. I've vowed that when I do replace her, the new truck WILL have 16 inch rubber on it. I do not understand the advantage of a a 17 18 or 20 inch tire on a pickup truck. Can anyone here educate me?

Anyone?

Know what you mean, my f150 also has 17" wheels. A set of 4 17" Michelin"s is over a thousand bucks. I thought about going back to 15" but the 17" wheels only clear the rotors and steering by less than an 8th inch.

Hmmm, guess I'm lucky to have an old '95 F-150 XLT 4WD with 15" alumy wheels...bought a set of American made 265-75R-15 Cooper Discoverer HT's for 580 bucks out the door last October at a local tire dealer/mechanical repair shop. Very happy with them so far except they all do lose pressure slowly...2-3 lbs. a month. Seem to be balanced perfect, quiet, and handle nice. Keepin' my fingers crossed....got 80,000 miles plus out of the old Goodyear Wrangler RTS's which aren't available anymore..substitutes were quoted 820 bucks best price.

Hey dulster it's the rim, the beads are leaking
& the 15" alumi Ford wheels are noted for it...

Count your blessings that's all it cost. I replaced the 35x12.50x20 all terrain tires on my F-250 a couple of months ago. Out the door it cost me over $1600. That was buying the tires from tirerack.com and having a local put them on and balance them. Shipping was about $100, but I didn't have to pay state sales tax (6%). So since they were so expensive, the shipping charges were near the same as paying sales tax. Not to mention the local dealer wanted about $75 per tire more. I saved about $200. So it definitely made it worth while to buy online.

If I can swing it and buy new tires for the '04 F350 4x4 (single rears), I try to go to Wal-Mart or other places that offers lifetime balance and rotation for a nominal fee. It pays off over time. If the store does not have the tires, you can special order them through them, takes a week or less. Good fortune also has it that I have friends at the nearby Goodyear plant... sometimes get deals through them/from them, either factories/or their own T/O's....

My 1999 lincoln navigator has 17 inch wheels and I just bought 4 Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor tires for $150 dollars each or $600 dollars. Goodyear was also offering an $80 dollar rebate of a set of 4 so I ended up paying $520. They ride very nice and seem to be doing well in snow. They are 265-70-17 size.
