I am so sick of getting up in the morning and turning on the tv to the morning news! Local news did not come on until 7 and it was either cartoons or all this political garbage, I was anxious to switch to local news at 7, at 7:03 I had heard about a shooting at the mall, the Sanduski scandall and the millions spent by the Catholic church keeping a local priest afloat for having kiddie porn in his posession, and 2 seconds of weather! Its 7:30 and I am ready to go to the shop!

Ah the joys of instant communications. What use to be local news can now flash around the world in just a few seconds.

About five minutes a day is all I can take. I usually don't even watch it in the morning. I turn it on at noon and watch it through the weather. The evening news is just the noon news all over again. Seems like they get on some story and beat it to death for three days. Not trying to be racist here, but I don't know why they even report violence and murder among inner city minorities anymore. It's three or four a day. Might as well just report a body count like they did everyday during the Viet Nam war.
We have antenna TV in the bedroom and don't have to watch the locals that Direct TV gives us. We get 10 o'clock news there from up north, out of the city and it's a whole different ballgame. Just a whole different kind of reporting.

About 10 years ago the started advertising upcoming news, and had blurbs of, "safety hazard with cribs, tune in at 6:00 to see...."

Kinda turned me off to hawking a safty hazzard as a ratings ploy, if you want to do news then tell me about the hazzard.

Just doesn't seem right.

When a long time local meterologist retired from a Grand Rapids station,he went on a local radio talk show and spent some time talking about why he couldn't work there anymore. He said it just wasn't fun anymore after they brought in the "consultants". Said these people told them to always treat everything as an emergency or a tragedy. Keep people in a panic so they'll tune in to every broadcast to stay up to date on every overblown story.

For many reasons I have just "tuned-out", and you know what? Life is just better if you don't "know" anything. When you have first hand knowlege of something and it gets reported either as a bold faced lie, or at best, a misrepresentation, it draws into question the credibility fo ANY report. Bad grease from a sixty year old gearcase smells better to me than today's "news" (and I use that term loosely)

RR,
They must have sent those consultants over to the Flint ABC station after they were done by you.

Everything is an emergency, BUT you"ll have to wait til 6pm news to hear. They start the news at 4pm. No joke. 4-6:30pm. Then during the 6pm, they start the scare tactics that you need to tune in at 11pm to find out.

Luckily, they another channel that is just weather, so I find what I need and go.

About as bad as the Grand Paipds Fox station. They're on from 5 to 9 AM,then 5 til 7 PM,with another hour from 10 til 11. Those dullards don't have enough news to fill five minutes. It's alomst embarassing to sit and listen to their mindless banter to try to fill the time. Long awkward pauses, comebacks that don't make sense. Stuff that wouldn't even be interesting to each other much less to viewers.

But yea,as far as the panic and wait, they fill it up with so many fluff stories it's insane. "A huge explosion has just leveled twelve buildings downtown, but first we have Mary Nobody in the studio to talk about mincing turnips. We'll get to that explosion story in ten minutes".
