I didn't hear no stinkeen tapping noise! Anyway, I operated everything, drove it around a bit and it seemed OK to me.
My first tractor, now what?

Don,

I have a 1973 Ford 2000, 3 cylinder gas. I use it for everything that I do - cut, rake, bale, and haul about 2500 square bales of hay every year; bushhog about 50 acres of pasture a couple of times each year; mow about 5 acres of "lawn" with a 6 foot finishing mower; scrape my 1/3 mile driveway after every hard rain; haul hay to the pasture to feed my cows every day in the winter; drag my pastures with a spike toothed harrow to break up and distribute the cow manure; lift telephone pole fence posts high enough to set them into the holes; auger post holes with a 3-point post hole digger; plow, disk and drag my garden; etc.

Unless you have a really big operation, your little 2000 should serve you well.

Good luck,

Tom in TN

You do all that stuff with just ONE tractor? Why, any self-respecting YTMAGer would have at least 6! LOL

"But seriously, folks", I did end up with 3 tractors, in pretty short order, when I was doing hay. So much easier to have them "permantently" hooked to their implement, especially if you have a 3 point disc mower, which can be a pain to mount and dismount.

Welcome to the world of tractor ownership, Don.

Speaking from experience, I am well qualified to warn you that tractor envy is contagious. I would advise you to keep your distance from other tractor owners.

New development.

The seller delivered it and the hitch wouldn't work to lift the mower before offloading from the trailer! He thinks it's air bound. He couldn't get it cleared so he took it back with him to fix.

Yep, have a Ford 2000 3 Cyl Gas works great and just had it repainted last year.. Works and looks great.. It was my first tractor in back in 2003 also..

Later picked up a Ford 861 and wife said 'what do you need two tractors for...'

I have a '63 2000D that I have had for geez, 15 years. Has about 3800 orig. hrs on it. All original other than oil filter (grin).

It's a 4 speed with a tranny driven PTO and isn't as slick as later model Fords, which I have at least one left ('65 3000 six speed, Live PTO) but I like it and I keep it and I enjoy driving it right along with my new 2007 Cab/air, 4wd fancy one with all the whistles and bells.

couldnt agree more mike. I am getting the "tractor buying disease" too. It makes it so easy for haying, and planting in the spring when you have one tractor doing tillage, and another on the drill. Makes it nice and easy because I culitmulch while my dad plants.

thats a lot of work for a 3000 ford gasser! We have 3 tractors a lot bigger then that and only farm 50 acres. Just wondering, how many hours do you put on that lil ford?

No offense meant. Lots of us spend a lot more money on this stuff than we can justify, and can forget that if you're farming "for real" there may not be a lot of money to throw around.

You are right about the mower, we put ours on a 4040 JD and leave it on till fall. Was looking in son's shed and counted 6 tractors 3 will start. In mine there are are 6 and 5 will start. Kinda silly but we think one more would be good to put on anhydrous. LOL Vic

Maybe get one for the baler, one for the round baler, and then have the 1 on the discbine. thats my future plan anyways! Maybe use the same tractor to ted and rake with.
