Picked up a few acres and also had about 20% of previous acres that I had not bought seed for as I had not decided on beans or corn. Talked with seed dealer yesterday and they are sold out of most everything for my maturity. I expected that on the high yeilding corn hybrids, thats why I ordered and payed last fall, but soybeans?? Guessing alot of land that has been out of production is being brought back with beans as the first crop to clean up.

Don't know what is going on with bean seed. Here in Iowa 100's if not of acres of seed corn were lost in a big wind storm last summer. It hit about tasseling time and they could not detassel it to get pollination done correctly.

It was all laying on the ground and twisted together.

Most seed companies will be sold out and some are banking on seed growen below the equater to fill the needs this spring.

It it comes to planting bin run I bet you will be allowed but will have to pay the tech fees to Monsanto.

You may be able to do it anytime you want as long as you take care of the Tech fees.

They were talking about the fake seed corn shortage this morning on AgDay. I would imagine the same thing's going on with beans. They said the real top end, cutting edge seed was sold out, that if you wanted more, you'd have to settle for the older, less technical varieties. I think you're dealer already told you that that's the case with the beans.

Probably not. Several years ago a popular soybean seed was sold out. We had quite a few in a bin that were in excellent shape, very clean, no damage. Wanted to plant some and were willing to pay the tech fee. Monsanto said no way.

The problem with soybean seed started with the dry fall inseed producing areas. Seed beans were small and very dry (6 to 8 % moisture) that causes the seed coat to crack and loss of germination very easily with each time the seed is moved. The problem with germination is what is causing the soybean seed shortage.
