Hello there, I was talkin to a fella awhile back that stated he had built an A for tractor pulling. He told me everythimg he had done to it, and also stating he had put a 60 cylinder head on it. I always thought they wouldn"t fit but maybe i"m wrong. Can anyone clarify this?

Yeah, there's one sitting on display at Eckert's restaurant near Belleville, IL. They notched the frame a little to make it fit. I posted a picture of it here on YT, but I'm apparently too stupid to find it. . .

I have this A4226R head sitting here fits the late A and early 60

Styled A's SN 488000 and up and the 60 all share the same headbolt pattern. As PJH mentioned, the frame has to be notched to fit the 60 head on an A SN 584000 and up.

After seeing PJH's photo last fall of a A with a 60 head, it got me thinking of putting one on my unstyled A/styled A hybrid I am working on. I have the head, carburetor and M&W 2 piece manifolds sitting in the garage. Problem is, if I wanted to pull it, someone would whine and cry that it has a 2bbl carburetor on it......so I guess I will go with "plan A" and put the ported Heisler and big 1bbl carb. on it instead.

I have ran several model B's and 50's and A's and 60's and the only thing gained by that 2 bbl. carb. was a smoother idle. You can get the same power from the stock head. Most increases are from piston style to raise compression and bore size.

Thanks for all the replies! This helps me out alot. And that is alot of the problem with my A is the damn thing won't idle smooth. I've went through that carb about a dozen times over the years and still runs the same. I might just try this....
