Storm direction?

Got to wondering...From which direction do most of
your prevailing winds/storms come from? Here in
southwestern/western Colorado,mostly they come up
from the southwest-pacific.A few come down from the
north/northwest

We are located between Michigan City Ind. and South Bend, Ind. about 22 miles souteast of lake Michigan. Most of our winds come from the nortwest. Our worst storm are the lake effect storms with winds out of the north or northwest.

Eastern South Dakota. Wind seems to mostly come from the south (which is good, it's warmer down there). When it swings to come from the NW we almost always get weather.

The lake effect snow here in Michigan come mostly from the west and northwest. But the real missery comes from the east and northeast when we get a low pressure system spinning from the backside.
In the summer,Lake Michigan has the opposite effect. Storms over Minnesota and Wisconsin tend to fall apart when they come over the cooler water. Our big summer storms come up from the south and southwest all the way from the gulf.

Most storms come from the South West here in Southern Il. But the really bad weather starts from the SW then swings around and comes from the East. The old saying, A East Wind is a Ill Wind.

We catch it from both ways here. Right now there is a storm that came up the east coast. The east wind is blowing snow horizontally through my yard. The next storm is coming from the west. That will cause "lake effect" snow off from Lake Ontario.

Mostly from the west,or northwest seems the jet stream has 2 directions, from the north or from the south, just look out the kitchen window down at the 20 acres of pond, 'cept when its frozen. Often times there seems to be a meeting of the 2 or one cancels the other out, (wind direction).

The other scenario is a system that comes straight out of the south, like Hurricane Irene and that tropical storm after it. Right up the Hudson Valley, if that had been snow.... well lets not think about that.

On rare occasions, something will come from the east, but I think that is part of a rotation in the system, usually a large weather system, it did when Irene came through. There has been a lot of north or south winds lately. Usually if it warms from the south, when that cold air comes in, the transition is high winds, storms or the like, lately when its changed, transition has been mild.

Here in Nebraska, most (but not all) come from the southwest and go to the northeast.

I had a job once where I talked to a fellow in Chicago on the phone about every day. He always asked me what the weather was doing here, 'cause whatever it was doing here in Nebraska it would be doing in Chicago a day or two later.

In Saskatoon the wind and weather comes mostly from the north west. If you know whats happening in Edmonton, its a good chance Saskatoon will have it next day, more so in winter than in summer.

I've seen storms come from all directions in SC, but most of the time they come from the SW.

In central NC the prevailing winds are from the west or southwest. I have noticed more variation in the past six months than before with wind coming from the east or north at times.
