Just so tickled with the direct injection on my "new" tractor and how quick it starts without glowplugs..... It has a preheater for intake air that I had been using like glowplugs and using the foot throttle so it would start a little quicker..... On the "kill" knob, if you don't pull it quick and all the way, the motor revs before stopping...... Thought that was just normal and I had to adjust my habits..... Was fumbling with the operators manual and looked at the starting procedures..... Shazam!!!!!

You's sposed ta pull the "kill" knob out the first stage, leave the throttle pedal alone, and pull the starter knob (without preheating).......
Don't even think the motor turned all the way over before it started.....

Guess I better fumble some more in the book and see what else I learn

Afternoon: I am curious what kind of "new" tractor did you get, is it a brand we have or can it be compared to something over here?
You are keeping busy i read at least, no rest for the weary is there:)
have a good one

Phil,Dave has a German built IH.The starting'system' is common to all of the IH 'german diesels',ie:d239,d310(706/756),d358(826),others that use german Bosch injection systems. It's "fuel dump"-'enricher' of sorts, kinda like a 'choke'.It may also change/advance timeing a little for starting.I'm not really sure exactly how it works-but it does!

be assured that it works MUCH better than preheating and pushing the pedal a little.....
Could it be that it does something else other than just accelerate a little then?? Would appreciate it if someone could clear that up for me...

Thanks,

Dave
