JD 3020's: This make sense?

So I've found two 3020's that together fit my liking. One is a gas syncro 2 remotes wide-front w/ Freeman Loader ($6250). Other is a gas powershift 1 remote narrow front ($5500).

My idea was to buy both and put the WFE, loader and 2nd remote on the gas/powershift tractor, then sell the 2nd tractor as a plain Jane gas/syncro/narrow front/ 1 remote for $4000-$5000.

Am I dreaming or do you guys think that's a decent way to do it?

Thanks

I think you are dreaming.. Lots easier way to end up with a good $ 6500.00 tractor .. Just keep shoping. Buying a gas tractor may be what you want but this part of the country anything over 30 hp in gas you can,t give away and a narrow front tractor is scrap price. I would say you jd as you think you would end up with would be hard pressed to bring any more than 3 thousand and that would be hard to get. Don,t look at adds with asking prices go to auctions and see real sale prices...not buy back auctions

Smoother? Try difficult to shift but good on the lurching. He should drive both and decide which he likes. Trans is a personal choice. I"ve had/have 5 PS, would never buy a synchro. Drove enough of each. I"ll load circles around anyone with a PS loader tractor.

Very interesting, I have used both powershift and syncro and I would never have a powershift. I would even challenge your loader idea using 5th and reverse. Some people like vanilla others choclate. You are right he should drive both and make up his own mind as both were good transimmisions. It is just what you are use to.

I don't want to be a spoil sport, but I had a 3020 gas job and traded it faster than any other tractor I've ever owned. My 2520D was a much better tractor and had more power than the 3020G. The powershift is nice on a loader, but the synchro in a JD also a good choice, if the synchronizers aren't worn out. But I'd definately look around a bit further and try to find a 3020D or even a 4030D. Maybe I've been spoiled over forty years of running a diesel Deere, but for maintenance, power, and overall durability, you couldn't give me a gas tractor, again. Except for my old B or (Lord forgive me), and H or M.

Yup, it is what you are comfortable with- just like skidloaders...on my third one now.......all hand controls. I don"t like the older bobcats with hand and foot controls. I like my feet flat on the platform, can run everything but the grapple with two hands. Rough ground, the feet are not affected. Now, you can buy machines that switch back and forth- I expect that to be a maintenance nightmare as they get older. Like when I can afford them!

I am a JD guy and you can"t give me a 3020/3010 or 4020/4010 gas. They run like crap on the new regular gas. So unless you want to buy premium gas I would steer away from either of them.

As for the value. A JD 3020 gas, single SCV and narrow front will not bring much more than $3000-3500 around me. It would have to have real good tires to bring that.

I never really liked the way the 4 cyl. gas waterloo models ran. They sounded weird ? anemic ?
We have a 4020 gas and it has served us well ! It runs fine on todays 87 octane cheap gas. Had to get a Zenith carb. though.
So I would go by yours needs and expectaions and not worry about fuel types. A power shift is really going to bog you down in cold weather use. And I have hills and the park on powershifts is not well suited for hills. The whole reason I went with a gas was for winter use and I only do small jobs start it up run it out and then done and shut it off. Many times I'm done before a diesel would even be warmed up properly.

What part of the country are you in ? I'm in north central Ohio. Our 4020 may be up for sale as we are downsizing.

We must be opposites as I can't drive any skidloader but a NH with foot controls. It steers like my Deere 800 windrower. Me and hand controls don't work, spent an hour in a Gehl one day bad experience.LOL Atleast there are plenty of options so we each can have what we like(most of the time anyway).

That's why I asked. I'm looking to pick up a 45-90 HP tractor for small job and utility type work. Ive been looking all the way down to 1530, 2020, 2430, 2240, 3020, 4020, 4030 etc. We've got a 4020D powershift w/148 loader right now, so I'm familiar and partial to the powershift right now, and by already having that around the need for another diesel is minimized, but I would definitely prefer one. I'm looking to spend ~$7,000, and another loader would be nice.

Thanks
