Heavyweight division up next..will post later

"This horse went down......had the equivalent of a human heart attack"

Or the tractor equivalent of a blown engine.

Do they pull the horses based on their weight, or just a fixed weight of say 9500 lbs and how far they pull it?

Rick

At the horse pulls at our Farm Fair, the sled is loaded progressively heavier. As a team fails to pull, they are dropped from the competition. A peg at the end of a 50 ft rope is the mark to beat. The peg is set even with the back of the sled at the beginning of the pull, and when the sled reaches a full pull, the rope pops the peg out of the ground and the team is finished for that round. When all teams have been eliminated but one, you have a winner.

Right before the exit, we have 60 acres of farmland. It lays right against the interstate, so you went right on by.

As far as i know, the horse did not die. They had 4 vets at the pulls. They said on tv that they would upgrade his condition later.

Lightweights must weigh under 3500lbs per pair. The highest heavy team is at 5200lbs. They keep on adding blocks to the sled to increase the weight. Right now the heavies are pullin 10,300 lbs on the sled and still goin strong.

When the get to pulling around 13,000lbs, that is pretty much the top teams limit.

I was sitting in the arena next to the gates where the horse was taken out. I listened to one of the participants down on the floor of the tunnel next to me say that the horse had, indeed passed. The assumption was that it was a heart attack. He was dead before they loaded him up and brought him out. He was just giving his all and nobody did anything wrong. The amazing thing was to watch everybody reacting immediately to what was a significant emergency. Regardless of the fact that they were all competitors, they all came together to help this team and this horse.
