another weather thread.....

Got up this morning to a beautiful sunny day.... So nice that I fed and played hooky from shoveling poo just to put the dog in the car and drive around..... Spent about 3 hours just lazing around the county(??) and driving access roads..... We haven't had but about 3 nights of below freezing weather this year (season).... The woods from a distance already have that spring hew.... Fields of winter grain that is usually yellor are green along with some usually brown meadows. We don't have robins, but an all black bird that acts just like them.... A few stay all year but today I saw skads of them acting like spring (gathering).... And, passing a remote barn, I swear I saw a swallow.... Hazelnuts are budding and spring flowers are popping up.......

What does this do to farmers in seasonal climate??? If we get a freeze, I can see a year without nuts and fruit (apple trees are budding also).....

Could it mean a thin year next year for the gatherers/browsers????

On a positive note, no water in sight for 6 days and maybe dipping below freezing a couple nights.....

We usually wait til things freeze then put the horses on the pastures and worm them, haven't been able to yet......

long with all that, I saw a funny lookin line of smoke and chased it to see an old coal locomotive zooming along the RR tracks.... Never saw one except once in my life and never over here.....

(quoted from post at 05:09:55 01/10/12) The weather part I can believe, but are you sure you weren't dreaming about the coal fired train?

Already emailed the wife with date & time so she can search and see what was up...... It was at a distance but looked real neat... Black with red trim (wheel spokes & cowcatcher) nothing other than the engine and a fuel car.....

The old saying is "An open winter makes a fat
graveyard" I've been fighting allergies, get to
sneezing and coughing til I can't stop. But I'm glad
for the nice days just the same.

We rode on a steam powered train in Wernigerode Germany in 2003. It was quite old and burning coal and smoked a lot, I have a great picture of it. Our Son had taught at a university there, it's a beautiful little town.

I think that's part of the prettiest country in Germany (the Harz) About straight north of me about 150 miles.....

Humm...wonder where ya saw that Steam engine...??

The ex-owner of the "Ohio Central" Railroad has been constructing a Massive NEW Roundhouse in Ohio, for servicing and storing Steam..

Could it have been heading there..?

Ron..
