settings for oxygen and propane when using a rosebud

Recently bought a victor rosebud torch for heating and bending metal.Place that sold it to me suggested to use my propane tank(one I use for my barbecue) for the gauge I generally use on my acetylene tank.
Salesman told me to use a setting of 25 on the oxygen and a setting of 30 on the propane tank. Reason for using propane is due to expense of acetylene. I've used the rosebud with the regular oxygen and acetylene tanks. It works great this way. What settings do some of You use if you use propane and oxygen?

A propane rosebud is not the same as an acetylene rosebud. You should be able to buy either for your torch. Sorry, I don"t remember the pressures.

I don't think you can use the same tip for propane and acetylene. I have found that the saving from using propane is not all just the cost of fuel difference. You use much more oxygen when using propane. So the total saving is not much.

There's another reason for using propane besides cost. Unless you have large tanks, your acetlylene tank may not be able to support the drawdown rate required by your rosebud.

Google on "Victor tip chart" to get recommendations on pressure settings as well as the all-important drawdown rate.

I switched to propane got a lp rosebod tip blew the end out 1st time using it on the old excidiline setting.Welding supply shop said presures should be 5#and 5# each. They wanted 180 for a new rosebud but I found a new end for 65.00 on the internet

Those pressures should be fine but like was mentioned, there should be a chart on the Victor site or with the rosebud. Pressures aren't as critical with a rosebud using propane. Propane does have a max. withdraw rate but it is high enough that you won't have any problems like you would with acetylene. Acetylene also has a max. pressure of 15 PSI. One of the reasons for using higher pressures on a rosebud is the flow of the gasses helps to cool the tip preventing backfires which is why you don't throttle back the valves too much if you only need a little heat. Rosebuds should be at least 75% open.

I've used my rosebud only once. Used my regular acetylene and oxygen tanks. What settings do You use when using the regular oxygen and acetylene tanks?

I'll go back to the place where I bought the rosebud and ask them. I didn't know there was a difference in rosebuds. The one I have did a great job of heating a piece of 1/2in x 4in piece of mild steel for bending. The whole area was red hot.

It is my understanding that act. gauage and pressure regulator will be damanaged by the propane. I never use propane; always oxy.& act. Armand
