Help me find...

At the Western Development Museum in Saskatoon were I do a lot of volunteer work, we are rebuilding a John Deere binder built around 1930. We use it every year to do threshing demonstrations. Most of it is in decent shape. The canvases are fairly good but the straps that attach and keep then tight are getting worn to the point where the buckels don't hold very well. Can anyone tell me where we can buy replacement canvas straps. Searching with Google hasn't come up with anything.

I'll ask my Dad.

I know he bought a binder some years back with canvasses and in very good shape.

I'll get back to you as soon as I find out.

Can you substitute straps cut from an old racheting tie down strap? Wasn"t cotton, but worked for us. We provide oats for our local steam show thrashing demonstration, usually 6 to 10 bulging wagon loads.

Call Wengers in Pa. 1-800-451-5240. They may not have them but can probably tell you someone who will. They're in the middle of Amishland.

About any good harness maker can make you new ones. There are two different ones here in north east Iowa. I have had them make many different leather straps. It usually does not cost much.
