Plow Snow With Your Car

I picked up a plow at auction that was designed for the American Eagle.(of twenty years ago, more or less?) Definately built for light duty.

Monkey Wards sold one in catalogue over 50 years ago. Blade was only about 6 in high. No lift system, rocker skids lifted blade when backing.

I can remember reading the classified ads in the back of Popular Mechanics, published in the '50s, that sold snowplow kits for passenger cars. They probably worked a little better with vehicles that actually had frames and some weight.

There weren't many pickups that had plows then. In fact, there weren't many 4x4s either. Mostly bigger trucks and road graders. Farms had a plow tractor. Some home owners had two-wheel garden tractors with plows. We had a Cub that was worthless going up-hill. Most snow removal was facilitated with generous amounts of elbow grease.

Looks awfully light weight. For that matter, for that car, lightweight is probably OK. Plow in back seems pretty stupid to me, especilly when it can't be seen. Backing up is inherently hazardous because of limited visibilities. Now, that rig probably won't push much snow either, especially with 2wd. I have a heavy 4wd with a diesel and balast, and I can get in trouble with that, Can't imagine he moves much snow with that. In 2wd, my truck won't do much either.

Friend of mine had a rental pu, and got some sort of a rear mounted drag plow off the trailer hitch receiver. Not very useful, and he spent more time fixing the electric winch than he did plowing.
