OT - I guess they must think winter is over...

Popped on Craigslist this morning, and literally 50% of the ads in the farm & garden section were for SNOWBLOWERS.

The ads were all over the area, so it's not likely to be the same guy selling a bunch of old junkers.

Checked the next two nearest Craigslists... Not nearly as many snowblowers, but a lot more than you normally see this time of year.

Maybe not... I have one for sale also.. Reason being I just want to upgrade into a bigger one.

And it will soon be needing attention in another year or so.. Belts. bearings, etc. (like most you see listed) Mine could use a drive belt now PO put one too small on it wont disengage tram correctly , but works as should otherwise. and priced accordingly.

Know that selling one now may get bigger bucks than waiting till spring is also a factor.

Funny that one of the stories on NBC Nightly News this week was a weather story from Sherman, NY (Chataugua County) about the snow falling off of Lake Erie.

Did you get much snow in your area this year? Are used snowblowers selling fast at any price or are they staying on the market for a long time unless the price is very low?

Here in cental Minnesota our biggest snowstorm so far this season was only 1 inch. We don't have enough snow to cover the grass, and that will be gone by this Friday. Last year we got 100 inches of snow and had at least a foot of snow on the ground continuously from mid-November until almost April. Snowmobiles and snowblowers are selling cheaper this year than they did last year.

Normally in a heavy snow year everybody needs a snowblower or a snow scoop and every snowblower gets a lot of use. The marginal snowblowers eventually break-down and need to be repaired or replaced in a hurry. The inventory of new snowblowers sells out early, before Christmas. Once the new models sell out, the demand for good used snowblowers really goes up. So... any working snowblowers sell fast and used selling prices stay high until the season is almost over.

If you didn't get much snow yet this year, it could be that one or more snowblower dealers in your area has too much new snowblower inventory and now must heavily discount them to unload them before the season ends. The dealer can't give much money for any used trade-ins, because there is little demand for either new or used snowblowers this year. So... many more used snowblowers get listed in newspapers or Craig's List instead of being traded in, most stay on the market for a long time and used selling prices stay low until the next big snowfall.

That's one theory. Other theories?

I had an older snow blower ( 8-28 ) that I wanted to
sell so I hurried up and got it in running order
while we had some snow on the driveway. Took some
pictures and had the wife put it on craigslist, sold
in 20 minutes! Some of the snow melted today and the
rest will probably go tomorrow, what a winter. At
least we finally got safe ice on our lake!

Russ in our area guys are starting to pull ice houses in very near shore or off. I think we've had 4 or 5 people through the ice in the last 2 weeks, no fatalities yet. Supposed to be near 50 tomorrow. Ottertail county.
