Good fuel efficient tractors

Im looking to buy a tractor for under $1400 that is really fuel efficient and can pull a 1 or 2 bottom plow.

thanks

You better raise your price limit hard to find anything that cheap anymore. Your limited to a really old GAS model and no 3 point hitch at that.

O ya , I have no use for 3 point hitch all my equipment is on steel wheels. I would perfer a old tractor rather than a new one.

I hate to see someone go wrong with their life and tell them to see red, but an H Farmall would be cheaper and be easier to find because they made more of them. And they were the missing link between horses and the more capable Deere---

I feel lunch comin up.......... You got the red of the lifesblood of the tractor world and then the green and yellow of an infected wound........

Farmall H or a C would fit the bill for you. You will need 2 or 3 of the green ones to keep one running. They paint them green and yellow to hide them in the corn fields when they break down. LOL

you seem to think Farmall is some how better than John Deere al i can do is point out that Farmall and international havester are not around any more what little that was is now Case New HOLLAND with Home offices in Holland

That would require wishful thinking and much good luck.ploughing only or other tasks? Is this for a hunting food plot?

The British IH diesel tractors sometimes sell in that price range. B275, B414, etc. Very efficient, live PTO, hi-low range trans, live hydraulics, differential lock, etc. Great tractors in that size range. Will pull two 14" plows just fine.

Of course if all you want to do is pull a single plow, a $600 Case VAC will do the job. Not going to find one with a diesel though.

HHG is "horsepower hours per gallon." The higher the number, the more efficient.

Case VAC - 20 horse at 10.7 HHG of gas.
10 horse at 7.8 HHG of gas

IH B275 - 33 horse at 14.3 HHG of diesel
21.5 horse at 13.2 HHG of diesel
14.5 horse at 12.4 HHG of diesel
7.3 horse at 7.4 HHG of diesel

Farmall H - 26 horse at 11.6 HHG of gas
14 horse at 9 HHG of gas
12 horse at 8.2 HHG of gas

John Deere B - 24.4 horse at 11.7 HHG of gas
12.8 horse at 9.2 HHG of gas

Ferguson TO-35 - 31.8 horse at 11.5 HHG of gas
22.5 horse at 9.9 HHG of gas
15 horse at 8.2 HHG of gas

Ferguson TO-35 - 26.5 horse at 15.6 HHG of diesel
19.2 horse at 12.1 HHG of gas
12.8 horse at 9 HHG of gas

Instead of a Farmall H I'd look for a Farmall 300 or 350 gas tractor. Just as easy on fuel as the H but with live PTO and live hydraulics making it a MUCH better tractor with nearly the same HP as an early M.

They are the wrong color for me most of the time; but an Allis C could be had for that money,1.5 gal/hr, and a quick govener on that "short" silo blower . Dan

dunno about that... maybe with a single cylinder for fuel efficiency, My IH 782 17 HP only gets an hour on 1.5 gal to an acre uses more than "BIG BUD" @ I Gal per acre.

What I'm Saying is Big Bud hauling a Plow the size he pulls can probably do an acre in less than 500 feet in less than a min. I work mine for a little over an hour .

Case DC is very good on gas as compared to other tractors. Can you stand the hand clutch?

The most efficient gas tractor ever tested was an Oliver 1800 in 1960. Made 71 horse at 13.1 HHG of gasoline. The worst gas tractor (real farm tractor made after 1940) was a Ford 8N that made 21 horse at 7.1 HHG of gas.

The Case DC is not too far from one of the best.

37 horse at 10.9 HHG of gas
32.7 horse at 12 HHG of gas
25 horse at 11 HHG of gas
20 horse at 9.6 HHG of gas
17.6 horse at 9.1 HHG of gas
8.9 horse at 5.7 HHG of gas

In the YT classifieds I have what you want. An Allis CA with all the goodies, including a 2 bottom it pulls thru my sandy soil at half throttle, and to burn over a gallon an hour, you must be flogging it at full bore.... I had over half a dozen Allis Chalmers over the years, and none were gas hogs. Kinda wonder if switching brands was a good idea.

We use mules up north also. When ice cutting, we've used mules for scoring/marking the ice and horses to move the ice to the ice house. One guy even had his "ox in training" Holstein doing some work.

It's been nearly 28 years since the International Harvester Company's Ag Division was in serious financial trouble and put up for sale. Thoughtful John Deere people don't say bad things about IH and their products, in fact many of them were former IH product owners. Perhaps it would be a kind gesture if the John Deere people would occasionally send sympathy cards to the multitude of loyal IH people who believe that degrading John Deere products will bring the original International Harvester back from the dead. They're obviously still hurting after all these years.

Here is a quick summary from Neb Univ tests on tractors from 1920 to 1970:

Unless you're going to do a lot of plowing with that 1 or 2 bottom it won't make any real difference how much gas it uses. Pick one yo u like to ride on and go with it.
