Any of you guys had the classic "heater blend door failure" on one of these models. The blend door motor snaps the shaft right off the plastic door rendering it useless. My wife's failed this AM (full cold of course). I net searched it and literally THOUSANDS of people have had this failure. The repair is in the $1,000 range-Everything in the dash must come out-the heater box is the LAST thing at the int firewall, so very labor intensive. I guess many attempts were/are being made for a recall/class action suit. I can fix it-found an excellent tutorial online with photos, BUT...if one fixes their own that leaves one out for any compensation or recourse cuz I'm not an "authorized dealer". But, more importantly, anyone found an easier fix? It looks like an 8 hour fix.

funny you bring it up, I drilled a hole in the passengers side of the heater box after looking up the article on HandyManlyNessdotcom under archives then inserted a plastic rod from a clotheshanger to lift the blenddoor up--which will get the heat going, then went high tech and ducktaped in place. it will get you by until the weather gets better. if you want, i will take a pic when I get home so you can see where to drill the hole....if you need the A/C just remove rod....and that was on my wifes 06 torrent--did it last month.

Yup! Already had my mind made up when they became "gov't" motoers that I was done with them. Last three cars have been a Jeep, Dodge, and this one, the Jeep being the best. Been a true blue GM, USA guy for years but you know? It doesn't matter anymore half of em are made in US anyways and most get their components from the same suppliers.

Bless you! I took the door motor off-its accessable from under the glove box-to verify the door is broke. It is. The drive pin is broke off. I seriously contemplated cutting the side of the box open to get to the door then patching it. As epedemic as this is I can't believe someone hasn't come up with a cut and patch repair. Your photo would be a blessing. Thanks. Email open if you like

Google heatertreater.com They should have a fix for about $150.00 I installed their kit on my Grand Cherokee. The older Jeeps are known for their blend door problems.

Don't let being left out of the class action deter you. If you stay in it, you'll probably end up with about seven dollars, and the lawyers will get seventeen million.

Wanna go a long way toward fixing the country? Get rid of class action suits. And this is coming from a lawyer. Who isn't jealous in the slightest, because I couldn't look in the mirror if I did one.

the light green rod is a 10-12 inch piece of plastic that pushes the door up--may take a little wiggling. held in place with good ole duct tape.

the farmerization took about 1 hour looking at photos and 5 minutes to get the glovebox out of the way and to drill the hole then shove the plastic in and tape down.....hope this helps

Did one on an Equinox past fall. Not a bad job if you keep track of all the fasteners and label.Take some digital pics as you go if ya feel the need.Have a shop pull the refrigerant out and save for refill so you can pull the entire HVAC case out to disassemble.

There"s a recalibration process to perform on completion. The best defense to prevent future breakage is to not turn temp dial to either full hot or full cold. Also,I installed a new GM heater core at the same time as a preventive measure.
