4000 Ford Tractor 3 cyl gas 1971 Model

When I operate the three point lever the operation is not smooth. I will move the handle a little bit and it moves the arms slightly and then move it a little more and it lifts the arms a great distance. Is this a filter problem or something else?

The symptoms that you describe are most likely caused by a worn cam follower pin.

Are you certain that the lift is in the position control mode and not the draft control mode?

I just purchased the tractor so will have to ask you how do you check the different positions between the Control or draft control mode?
Thanks for your response!

Don't know if they changed things on a 71 model but the 65 and 69 year 4000 gas did not have a hydrolick oil filter.

Just going from memory here, but I think all 3-cyl. 4000's DID have a hyd. oil filter... just that it was internal. You have to take the top cover off to replace it, IIRC.

Nothing in any operators or parts books about any and I had a 65 4100, a 68 4100 and a 68 5100 and never found anything to remotely sugest a filter in there.
